GILDA'S POV I could feel their eyes on me. My dress was simple, yet it made them uncomfortable. Angel held my hands as if I were some kind of hope. I had been asked to sit at the front table because of her. I knew how hurt Jane would be since it wasn’t her sitting at the front beside Japheth. I tried to focus, but then I saw her. I thought the maids would be my only concern, but I was wrong. My fears were real. Vera walked in with Ethan. I saw the way he smiled at her and how he held her waist as he guided her to a seat. He was right; he never loved me because he never did those things for me. I had asked for them, but I never received them. Pain filled my chest and then my throat. The time wasted hurt me the most. I should have noticed the multiple signs. “What is she doing here?”
