The evening passed quickly and I didn't even realize when it was morning. Only when Iris entered the room slamming her bag on the floor did I startle and wake up. We didn't have time to exchange a single word because her threw herself into bed and fell asleep immediately. I look at the little princess sleeping next to me and a smile takes shape on my lips. Last night, after Iris left, I gave Gigi a bubble bath, then I combed her hair and braided it into two ponytails, and after she put on her Hello Kitty pajamas, we- I got under the blanket and told her stories I made up, until, it seems, we both fell asleep. I get out of bed and try to arrange my hair as much as possible.
It's never a good idea to sleep with it off when it's still wet. She becomes wild and I can hardly tame her.
- Good morning, Anna. Gigi says, sitting up and rubbing her eyes, still sleepy.
-Good morning princess. I tell her and she gives me a subtle smile. Shall we go brush our teeth?
She jumps out of bed with a strange energy and takes her toothbrush and toothpaste from her backpack, then we go to the bathroom together. I pull the laundry basket next to the sink and put her feet on the flat lid of the basket so she can see herself in the mirror, then we start brushing both of our teeth. After finishing the morning routine, I have to leave the bathroom at her request because she needed to sit on the toilet. I listened to his wish and left the bathroom heading towards the closet looking for something to wear. My thoughts then run to Gigi, who seems very intelligent for her age. I don't know anything about her father, but I'm sure he's a proud father.
My contemplation is interrupted by several loud knocks on the door and I'm surprised that Iris didn't wake up.
I'm sure the whole house heard these knocks from the door of our room.
I close the cupboard and go to open it. In front of me is a man like I have never seen before. Until the age of eighteen, my eyes fell unintentionally on the features of other men, but this one... I have never seen a man look so good, but at the same time surround you with the darkness around him.
I thought that men of such beauty only exist in books or a Japanese manga, not in reality. His eyes narrow analyzing my facial features, then he clears his throat bringing me out of my reverie.
Great…I stared, didn't I?
-Who are you? He asks me and my legs tremble because of his slightly hoarse voice.
I swallow hard and then moisten my lips, the action being noticed immediately by his sharp eyes.
-Uhm...I'm Anna, Iris's new roommate.
He makes a specific sound when he hits his tongue on the roof of his mouth while his eyes continue to analyze the rest of my body, then returning to my face.
-Ok... I don't care anyway. Gigi, we're leaving. He says the last part in a higher tone and I wake up startling.
The little princess appears in front of me already ready to leave and the man, who I assume is her father, takes her by the hand. Gigi waves to me, and I respond with the same gesture. After they became invisible, I close the door and place my palm over my heart, feeling it ready to burst out of my chest.
What is happening to me? Why did I react to him like that? And since when do I stammer? I never stuttered.
I go to the closet again, opening it, and only then do I realize why he is analyzing me so carefully. I'm still dressed in the damn pajamas with hearts.
And when I thought I couldn't be more embarrassed...
I take out a pair of black sports pants and a slightly wider white t-shirt and start to get dressed. I barely manage to tie my hair in a ponytail, put on my white tennis shoes, and after leaving a note to Iris telling her that I'm out on the town, I take my phone and keys and leave the room. I check my phone only after I leave the bedroom so I don't bump into someone and I see that I have unread messages from David and my mother.
David! How could I forget him? I was supposed to contact him as soon as I checked in, but I was distracted by my roommate.
David: Anna? Are you ok? You forgot to contact me. In any case, I think you are busy. Call me when you can.
Mother: Be careful with that roommate of yours. I do not like it. It will influence you badly.
I roll my eyes because of her unfounded worries and before I call David I decide to write to my mother that everything is fine and that I went out to eat.
-"Hey, Anna. What are you doing?" David's sweet voice fills my eardrum and I smile.
- I went out to have breakfast. You?
I make sure from both sides before crossing the street to be sure that no car is coming, then I enter the small confectionery in front of me.
-"I'm getting ready to go to the office. Today is an important day for my father, so I'm also a little stressed..."
The discussion starts to lose its interest in front of me and I try to decide what I want to order with coffee. All the dishes look good and I have no idea which one to choose.
-"Anna, can you hear me?"
- Yes, David. Sorry. I'm in a caffeteria and I was thinking what to order. Everything looks so…
-"Okay then, I'll leave you. Talk to you later." He tells me this, interrupting me, and I feel a small sense of strangeness.
-Sure. I say and the call ends.
Jesus...Has David always been so focused on him?
- Good morning, what can I serve you with? The sweet lady at the counter asks me and I smile at her.
I decide on a moccacino and three croissants with butter. After paying the cashier the amount owed, I take my order and sit down at a table by the window. While I enjoy this breakfast, which my mother would definitely not approve of, I take out my phone and start to inquire about what classes I will have the following week.
I don't even know how the time passes, but after I finish my last mouthful of moccacino, I notice that it's almost 10:00, so I head to the bedroom.
Surely Iris has woken up by now and I have to make her tell me where she was all night and why I was not informed that I will have unexpected guests in the morning who will see me in my ridiculous pajamas with hearts.
