Confrontations

Jake's POV Alpha Lucien was livid. He roared and threw things as he paced the floor behind his desk in his office. I expected this, I knew I had made a mistake. What I didn't expect was for Thorn to bust through the office door in just as much of a rage as her father. The only difference were the tears streaking down her face. She was hurt, broken. I stood to leave the room but the look on Thorn's face told me that if I tried to leave, I would be the next object of her rage. So instead of leaving I stepped aside to huddle close to a wall and just watch. Thorn stormed to her father's desk and tore into him. "How could you?! My entire life has been a lie! You weren't keeping things to yourself to protect me! You were only protecting yourself!" I had never seen Thorn angry with her father. She had been frustrated before, maybe even agitated, but Thorn and Alpha Lucien were incredibly close and I had never seen her like this before. "Watch your mouth Thorn. You only know what I have allowed your peers to know. You have no idea what I'm protecting you from!" Alpha Lucien had never raised his voice to Thorn before. They had always been thick as thieves as long as I could remember. To see this happening now and know that I had caused it was forcing me to hold back my own tears. Thorn had the relationship with her father that I had wished to have with mine. The relationship that my sisters have with him but I have always lacked. I couldn't just sit here and let her ruin that because she was momentarily angry and overwhelmed. Before I knew what I was doing I moved from the wall, placed myself between Thorn and Alpha Lucien, and scooped her up against my chest. I quickly walked out of Alpha Lucien's office and down the hall to my own office. Thorn was fighting against me the entire time, however I knew that if she actually wanted to hurt me, she could have. "You need to calm down Little Wolf. You're angry now, but you won't always be. You don't want to say something that could permanently damage your relationship with your dad. You may not like it, but you know I'm right." With the last word I gently placed her onto the sofa in my office and locked the door. I strode to the mini fridge behind my desk and pulled out a bottle of her favorite lemonade and handed it to her before kneeling in front of her. She looked briefly confused before she took the bottle from my hand, crossed her legs, and huffed in my direction. "Why did you tell me Jake? No one else in this house has told me anything and apparently everyone but me knew the truth. Even Eric." As she said his name she began sobbing. She had just learned that even her closest confidant had hidden something this massive from her. I couldn't image how she was feeling. I sat next to her on the couch and waited for her to speak again. "Everyone lied to me Jake. Everyone except you. I thought you hated me. Now you're the only one being honest with me AND you have my favorite lemonade. My life is upside down." She exaggerated her statement by throwing her head down into my lap. "Looks like it's just you and me now Jake." The panic I felt in my mind must have been evident on my face as well because next thing I knew, she was laughing uncontrollably at me. "You can calm down Jake. I wouldn't actually do that to you. I know you're not my biggest fan." I scoffed at her statement and she gave me a genuinely confused look before I just shrugged my shoulders. "I'm here Thorn. We may not be best friends, but you are my future Alpha and I will protect you as such. However you need." She sat up and leaned against my shoulder. I needed to leave this situation. NOW. "Do you think you're ready to go talk to your dad Little Wolf?" She inhaled deeply and nodded, I helped her to her feet and sent her off down the hallway to talk to the Alpha. I didn't know how much longer I could do this. Only a few more days, hopefully. Thorn's POV It was nice to hear that Jake had my back. Even if we hadn't ever been close or seen eye to eye, he was a good guy at the end of the day and he was going to make an excellent Gamma when we took over. After a very long conversation with my father, that probably wouldn't have happened if Jake hadn't removed me from the previous screaming match, my father and I were back on the same side. It seemed as though my life was finally going in the direction I wanted it to. My father was telling me more about my mother and the elder counsel would be at the summit. I would be able to speak to them myself and show them that I was capable of being the leader they needed me to be. The only thing left for today was to speak with Eric. I might be on good terms with my father, but Eric would be lucky if I ever spoke to him, on terms other than as my Beta, ever again. Lying by omission is still a lie and this one was too big for me to just ignore. Eric had a habit of not telling me small things that he thought might upset me, but this was the farthest thing from small. I knocked on his door and there wasn't an answer. I knew he was in there. I could smell him. I knocked again and he still didn't answer. I gave him one last chance and when he still didn't answer I entered his room anyway. What I saw stopped me in my tracks and nearly caused me to choke on the lemonade I was just finishing up. There, on the bed, was Eric and an Omega...a male Omega. Both were stark naked and clearly engaged in something I wasn't even sure was legal in the human world. I turned and slammed the door as I left. Eric had not only been holding back about my mother, but he had also been hiding the fact that he was gay. We were supposed to be BEST FRIENDS. I told him everything and the biggest things in my life and his, he hadn't told me. That was it. I couldn't handle anymore. I vowed, in that moment, that Eric would be my Beta...and nothing more. Our friendship was over.
