It was night. Chino and Ericka were driving on gravel in the bullet-riddled Camaro, searching for 2000 Road. Each of them was armed to the teeth. Finding the road would prove to be a tough in the dark, but finally Chino located it. Driving down 2000 Road, which stretched several miles, they moved slowly so they could spot the black Escalades.
“Maybe they left a light on for us,” said Ericka.
“Maybe they left milk and cookies out, too.”
“Chino?”
“Yeah?”
“If anything happens, I want you to know…”
He turned towards her. “I love you, too. If things don"t work out, I want you to know you were worth the trouble.”
He could see her grinning in the dark, illuminated by the light of the the dash. “You bet your ass I was.”
“You were,” he said. He turned back towards the road. “You are.”
