Leia’s POV Werewolves, damned cursed creatures! I hate them with everything in me! With every breath I take! Ever since my city was attacked by werewolves seventeen years ago and I lost my parents even before I ever got to know them well, I vowed to eliminate every single one of them. It's my sole purpose, the only reason I exist. To get revenge. My name is Leia Abara and I'm an elite hunter. An active member of the human force against werewolves. Those monsters have taken too much from me. I inhale sharply and close my eyes. The blur memories of that night flashes through my mind, pressing forward and haunting me. The screams. The blood. The soulless eyes of my parents as they stared at me. My mother's limp outstretched hand as she reached to protect her baby. I was only a child. Barely five. Too young to understand much, but the horror of that night is ingrained deep into my memory. I'm plagued with darkness and tragedy from that time. They infiltrate my dreams, my soul. They follow me everywhere. The only way I manage this torment is to fight. Destroy and annihilate all of them damned creatures. I shake my head to push the dark memories to the back of my mind. They'll come back. I know they will. They always do. I briefly manage to clear my mind, and try to focus on the task at hand. My team and I have just infiltrated the Coaster pack. The bodies of the pack members lie dead and bloodied all over the ground around me. I look around, checking to see if there are any still alive. There mustn't be any survivors. I’m surrounded by c*****e, but it's not enough. Not enough to pay for my loss. Not enough to atone for the grief I've endured. And definitely not enough for the loss of my parents. The gruesome sight gives me satisfaction. However, the satisfaction is fleeting, lasting only for a moment. I will not rest until I take them all out. I hear footsteps behind me. My hackles rise and I turn swiftly. I relax when I see that it's Sonia. Sonia is a hunter like me. The only family I have. Her parents took me in when I was young and venerable. I grew up with Sonia and she's like my sister. Panting heavily, she informs me of something I don't expect. “More wolves are coming.” Sonia says breathlessly. I squint in surprise as I hear her information. We've completely destroyed this pack. So where are they coming from? I barely have time to process the information when a big wolf enters the pack house, he swipes its claw straight at Sonia who happens to be right in line of his attack. His strike hits, slashing through Sonia's arm. She tries to shift, escape from him, but he lunges at her again. Adrenaline pumps through me. Hit again, Sonia screams in pain and falls to the ground. Her agonizing cry urges me. I attack the beast from behind, lunging at it with my spear. It senses me and moves out of the way. With my spear in my hand, I push forward and almost lose my footing. I'm quick to take a stance to steady and stop myself from falling forward to the ground with force. The wolf comes at me, attacking with a force that pushes me through the wooden door of the house and out the back. I fall to the ground with my back. It lunges at me, barring its canines and swiping its claws at me. I hoist both my legs and fling them over my head, somersaulting and dodging its attack. I stand quickly. It lunges at me again. Planting my heels rigidly on the ground, I pull backwards, titling my head to the side to dodge its attack. But the tip of its claws swipe at my face. I hiss, feeling my left cheek sting as the flesh tears. I quickly rise erect and swing at it with my silver spear. It moves. I move with it. Our backs circle each other before we turn, face to face, breathing hard and glaring at each other. He's watching me. I feel a stir within me. An unexpected shiver runs through me. I suddenly feel lightheaded. My breath becomes more ragged. No, no, no. Not a good time to be sick. Not my dizzy spell deciding to hit me in the middle of a fight. Ever since I was a child, I've had this dizzy spell. It's like something is trying to force its way out of my mind. They say it's from the traumatic shock I experienced when the wolves attacked our city. I have a special portion to suppress this sickness. But- The empty bottle sits in the pouch wrapped around my waist. I glance down at my waist. This is a bad time to feel dizzy. I shake my head and clutch my spear tightly. I can't let this win over me. I take one long deep breath to refocus. I pin my eyes on the wolf in front of me who is staring at me in awe, like he's seeing something different. Like he's just seeing me for the first time. He seems distracted. I take the opportunity to attack. I jostle him with my shoulder and it falls to the ground twisting its hind leg. Fear fills its eyes as it lays unable to move. I revel in its fear. Its eyes widen in shock and something I can't place as I approach it holding my spear. “You- you dare to kill your kind?” It stammers. I peer into the fear-filled eyes that gaze at me. Without hesitation or remorse, I drive my silver spear deep into its heart. “I can never be your kind. Disgusting creature!” I spit on it as it shifts. Dead, it takes on its human form. I look back at the pack house. Sonia! I turn to pull my spear out of the wolf I've just killed when I feel it. My sense of smell picks up on a strange scent. My nose suddenly feels too active, too alert. I sniff and the smell only grows closer. Wolves. I lift my head to see that they have me surrounded. I take a fight stance, clutching my spear tightly, ready to attack. No matter how many they are, I’m not going down without a fight. “Drop it.” A deep, enigmatic voice calls. I turn in the direction of the voice. My eyes land on a tall figure. I gasp in horror. He has Sonia. His muscular arm is wrapped securely around her neck. His other hand is pressed to her side, his claws digging into her flesh. Fear fills me for her. I look at the towering figure behind her. Dark, neatly trimmed short hair, thick eyebrows, intense sapphire eyes- the bluest I've ever seen- thin lips set into a hard line. He's tall and -I hate to admit- handsome. His sapphire eyes are intense, serious and void of emotions. “Drop it or she dies.” The deep voice repeats. He’s just another demon I remind myself. My chest rises and falls with each breath I take. Sonia is all I have left. Keeping my eyes on the man, slowly and reluctantly, I drop my silver spear. As soon as my spear reaches the ground. “Seize her.” The blue-eyed man orders. Strong hands wrap around me. A kick at my calf sends my knees caving, hitting the ground hard, causing pain to ripple through me. I hiss from pain, clamping my teeth tightly. On my knees, I cast my gaze at the blue-eyed demon. He holds my gaze, looking intently at me, his face is hard, wicked and glinting with mischief. It dawns on me. I want to react, but I'm held tight. His eyes are on me as he digs and twists his claws deep into Sonia's flank. Sonia gasps. Her eyes widen, filled with the crippling fear of death just before she falls to the ground. She jerks. Blood spills from her flank and her mouth. I watch as her life ebbs. Her saucer-like eyes stare back at me, reminding of my parents, begging me to save her. My heart beats loud. “Nooo!” I cry in agony, struggling to no avail against the hands clamping me down. I breathe in ragged successions as I'm forced to watch the life slip out of the one I call family. Grief claws at my heart. “Arrgh!” I scream. Intense agony tears through me. They've done it again. They've taken from me again. These monsters! “I’ll kill you!” I scream at the man “I swear! I'll kill you!” A satisfied smirk sits on his lips. He approaches me, slow, deliberate and purposeful. As he nears, my dizziness grows. A primal presence presses forward in my mind. I've never felt it this strong. I'm hit with a scent. Sandalwood and ocean breeze. It smells- good. Too good- enticing. Then I hear a strange, faint voice in my head. “Ma- mate.”
