22 Frank led his team back up to Base Camp from their trip down to Dengboche. The camp, for the most part, had emptied itself and the climbers were heading up the mountain for their summit attempts. The Winslow and Eckert Camps, however, still remained. That didn’t bother Frank, though. He liked bringing up the rear because it meant they would avoid much of the inevitable traffic jams that happened near the summit, especially at the Hillary Step. Although pushing the backside of the weather window was a risky move in that it could mean an aborted summit attempt if the weather closed in, he was willing to take it.
