Sophia stood there for a long time after Adrian had left.
The night was quiet… too quiet.
Her heart was still beating fast, and her eyes were filled with tears. She wanted to call his name. She almost did.
But she stopped herself.
“I can’t do this… what am I trying to do?” she whispered.
She forced herself to accept what had happened. She knew losing Adrian would not be easy.
But she had to let go… for her own peace of mind.
She went home with her friends, Lily and Emma.
On the other hand, Adrian wasn’t feeling any better.
It felt like his whole world had fallen apart.
Tears filled his eyes.
“I’ve lost everything… the one person who gave me happiness is gone,” he said to himself.
Later that evening, Adrian got home and saw his mother in the sitting room, calmly drinking a glass of juice.
He looked at her, anger rising inside him.
“Oh wow… congratulations, Mom,” he said bitterly. “You must be happy now. You finally got what you wanted.”
Mrs. Cole turned to him sharply.
“Don’t you dare speak to me like that.”
“I’ll speak to you however I want,” Adrian replied. “Have I not done everything to make you happy? And this is how you treat me?”
His voice broke slightly.
“Do you know how it feels to lose the person you love?”
“Enough!” Mrs. Cole snapped. “Do you think I would allow you to marry that girl? That gold digger?”
Adrian clenched his fists.
“Mom, you don’t even know her—”
“I know enough!” she cut in. “You must be a fool if you think I will ever give you my blessing.”
Adrian shook his head in disbelief.
“You’re unbelievable.”
Mrs. Cole stood up angrily.
“Everything you have today is because of me. I gave you the best life, the best education. And this is how you repay me?”
She pointed at him.
“Let this be the last time you ever disrespect me like that.”
With that, she walked away.
Adrian stood there for a moment, completely broken.
Then he walked slowly to his room.
He sat on the bed and looked at the ring in his hand.
For a moment, he covered his face, trying to calm himself.
But it wasn’t working.
He still couldn’t believe he had lost Sophia.
“I won’t beg again,” he said quietly. “I’ll just move on.”
From that day, everything changed.
Adrian stopped believing in love.
He focused only on his work… and building his future.
The next morning, Sophia sat by her window, staring at the rising sun.
But inside, she was breaking.
Her phone rang.
It was her mother.
She picked up.
“I heard what happened,” her mother said.
“Mom, please… don’t go there,” Sophia
replied. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
“My daughter,” Mrs. Bridgette Blake said softly, “you have to let it go… for your own good.”
“I’ll be fine, Mom,” Sophia said. “I’ll handle it.”
“Are you sure?” her mother asked.
“Yes, I am,” Sophia replied. “And besides… who told you? Lily and Emma, right?”
Her mother sighed. “Yes.”
“Okay, Mom. Have a good day,” Sophia said, ending the call.
Just then, Lily and Emma walked into the room and saw her crying.
“What’s wrong, Sophia?” Lily asked.
“I think you need a break,” Emma said gently. “You need time to clear your head.”
“She’s right,” Lily added. “Look at you… you’re not yourself anymore.”
“I just can’t,” Sophia said, crying. “I love Adrian so much.”
“We understand,” they both said. “But you need peace too.”
“You should focus on your life now,” Emma said.
“It’s not that easy,” Sophia replied.
“I think I need to leave,” Sophia said after a moment. “I just need space.”
She stood up and started packing her things.
“I can’t stay here anymore.”
“We understand,” Lily said. “Just take care of yourself.”
The next morning, Sophia left.
She was ready to build a new life.
Three years later…
Adrian Cole was no longer the same man.
He was now rich, powerful, and untouchable.
People respected him.
Some even feared him.
But deep inside… a part of him had not healed.
Sophia was also doing well.
She had become stronger and more independent.
She worked hard every day.
But sometimes… late at night…
She still thought about Adrian.
Adrian sat in his office, going through some files.
“Mr. Cole, Miss Vanessa is here to see you,” his assistant said.
“Let her in,” Adrian replied.
The door opened, and a tall, confident woman walked in.
“Good morning, Adrian,” she said with a smile.
“Vanessa… is that you?” Adrian said,
standing up. “You look even more beautiful than the last time I saw you.”
“Stop, you’re flattering me,” she laughed. “You don’t look bad yourself.”
“So, what brings you here after all this time?” he asked.
“I’m here for a business meeting for my father’s company,” she said. “And I thought I should come see you.”
“That’s thoughtful of you,” Adrian replied.
After a while, Adrian asked, “Would you like to have lunch with me?”
“Why not?” Vanessa said with a smile.
As time passed, they grew closer.
They attended meetings together and spent more time around each other.
But no matter how close they became…
She could never replace the one person in his heart.
One day, a file was placed on Adrian’s desk.
It contained information about new employees.
As he went through it, he suddenly stopped.
He opened one file slowly.
Then he froze.
“Sophia Blake…” he said quietly.
