I already have the feeling that this day would not be an ordinary morning. After I left the dormitory, the students that I pass by on my way to a building were chatting. It's the student who committed suicide on the rooftop in which one of the janitors had found. I did not believe it, but after I saw all the campus police with an ambulance, busy investigating in the school ground, that made me convinced that this day is sort of odd. The crimson university is a typical boring school that would not allow the students to leave outside of school unless it's a weekend or summer vacation.
The school has two huge buildings that serve as the students' dormitory. The female dormitory is located on the right-wing of the campus, while the left-wing is reserve for male students. We have a curfew at 10 pm; no students are allowed to wander on the school premises. Once they are seen and caught, they will clean the whole campus for a week with a deduction of ten points from their final grades. I saw my friend, Winter Guzman, from a distance who look indisposed while slowly approaching me.
"Hey!" she greeted me without any energy, looking pale. Her hair is still wet, looked like she hasn't combed it properly. Her uniform is untidy as well.
I think one thing I like in Crimson is their uniform style. Both males and females are wearing white long sleeves with a black necktie underneath the black coat designed with white lining, accompanied by the school symbol attached on the left portion of the chest. For the bottom, the male is wearing long black slacks while the female is wearing a black pleated skirt with white lines, matched with black shoes. It has a vibe of a Korean style, so the designer is most probably a fan of Korean culture.
"Are you okay?" I ask her while we continue walking away slowly on our way to our first class. We are in our fourth year of high school, and we have been classmates since 1st year.
"I think?" then she paused, looks kind of hesitant about her answer.
"Why?" she continued. We both turn to our left in synch. Our room is on the third floor so we don't have a choice but to climb up the stairs since the school hasn't provided an elevator, it made me happy though.
"You look horrible today!" I said.
"I just have a nightmare that's all!" she response, then she suddenly stopped midway, so I had to stop and check her. She looks confused which made me raise my eyebrow.
"What's going on?" she ask while staring at the window, from a no energy woman into a different type of person, she always shifted her mood in no time as if nothing happened.
"There's a student from class 3C who committed suicide," I said in a low voice. I don't want to cause panic to other students who still have no idea about the goings-on in the school. Winter's eyes suddenly wide open, maybe in shock of the news as I saw her hands trembling. What made her react that way? I never saw this kind of reaction before and it troubles me.
"I also saw Inspector Rowan, that only implies that this case is serious!" she added. I also saw them, this is a serious case indeed. If it's just a suicide case they will never summon inspector Rowan here and this case will immediately be case closed.
"What do you want to do, Winter?", I asked. She looked straight into my eyes like she was reading me. We have been asked to solve some small cases in this university like looking for a lost bag or wallet, to find a thief that stole the club's fund but never solve a serious case like suicide or homicide. She gave up on our staring contest and continued walking.
She's acting weird today because whenever she hears a case she automatically gets very excited, but today she ignored the fact that we can solve a serious case for the very first time. I run so I can catch up with her but she's walking too fast when she reached our room after I turned right.
"Winter, wait up!", I shouted but she didn't stop or even look back. When I got inside our room, I notice that there are still a few students busy chatting with each other. Well, we still have 30 minutes before our class start. I sat beside Winter, her hands are still trembling and she looked troubled. She's hiding something from me and I have to figure that out!
"You sure you're okay, Winter?" I ask her but she ignored me like her mind is flying somewhere else. When the class has started, our teacher always calls Winter's attention because she was absent-minded all the time. I'm worried about her but she kept ignoring me like she doesn't hear or see me. I don't understand why she acts like this and what is the reason for her change of mood again. This has never happened and I think she's really in big trouble.
After our class, she didn't stand up and move to give a farewell to our teacher, she just stared blankly when everyone was starting to leave the room, does she froze or something? I called her name twice or more but she didn't respond to me. I shook her and finally, she looked at me with a shock reaction.
"What's happening to you, Winter?" I shouted. I'm not angry at her, just seriously worried because she has been acting so weird today.
"Let's solve the case!" she said, I frowned at her reaction. And again, she switched her mood.
"Tell me first, what's happening to you?" she didn't respond again. She was only looking at me, in my eyes, and then she held my hand like a kid who's afraid to get lost.
"I'll tell you later! Agree on me first!" she said suddenly.
What the hell is happening to her? Does this have a connection to her nightmare that she told me earlier or maybe she was pulling a prank on me?
To be continue...
