"I did not hear much, Jim." said Rose while clutching her wrists anxiously.
Rick emerged from the room and saw Rose, then he casted a quick glance at Jim who looked at the floor.
"Well, if that is all, then you should run along now. Rick and I have important things to discuss." said Jim.
Rose nodded and walked away slowly. She was more than confused. She walked to the veranda of the pack house to take in some air.
"What what that about?" she asked herself as she leaned in n the rail on the veranda.
She thought long and hard, occasionally asking herself questions.
"What could be so important that Jim and Rick are keeping from me?" she asked again.
Of course, she knew that is would be foolish to confront Jim about it because he wouldn't talk and it might just get him angry. She did not want that to happen.
She resorted to asking Rick, but he was even far more secretive that Jim. It would be a near impossible task to accomplish. Yet, Rose needed answers.
She looked down at the young cubs playing happily in the grass, practising their fighting skills. Rose also saw about five teenage males arguing about hot females in the pack.
Rose grinned when one of them mentioned her name in the conversation. She found herself being distracted from her line of thought, but she was happy about it.
She did not want to keep stressing and worrying about Jim or Rick.
...
"What are we going to do about this situation?" Jim asked Rick who was sipping an alcoholic drink.
Rick replied,
"There is really nothing you can do except keeping it a secret. If word should get across the pack, you would be banished."
Jim felt a stab at his words. He sat down on a comfortable sofa and pinched the bridge of his nose, sighing heavily.
Rick glanced at him and continued,
"Although it is not really your fault, you cannot deny the fact that it is an atrocity to the pack."
Jim interlocked his palms and fingers together, nodding slowly.
"I just hope I can trust in you to keep this to yourself, Rick. I see you like a brother. I know you will not betray or fail me." Jim said, looking squarely at Rick who held his gaze.
Rick stood up and took a bow, showing his respect to Jim.
"I swear to guard this secret with my life, Alpha."
With that, Rick left the room. As he walked, he could smell Rose within the vicinity. It did not take him long to find her, leaning on the veranda rail.
"Rose!" he called out.
She did not answer. She was too deep in thought to notice that someone called.
Rick walked up behind her and placed his palm on the small of her back. She jolted slightly.
"Rick? How long have you been here?" she asked, feeling startled.
Rick shrugged casually,
"A few seconds. You seemed disturbed. Is it about earlier?"
Rose sighed and looked away.
"Jim and you are hiding something and it's not okay."
Rick went silent. He knew what to say, but decided not to say it because knowing Rose, it may hurt her feelings. Instead, he said,
"Rose, some things are better off if you did not know, believe me."
Rose looked down. Her eyes tearing up. Rick felt bad. He felt at his wits end. The moment he saw a tear escape her eyes, he faltered. His heart sunk and he did not know why.
"Rose don't. Please." he said softly.
Rick moved closer and wiped away a tear.
"Come on." he said as he held her gently by the wrist and took her to her chamber.
He sat her down on the bed and closed the door, leaning on it and facing her.
Both of them were silent for what seemed like forever. Rock however broke the ice,
"My interest and one of my main goals is to protect you. Physically and emotionally. Do you know that?"
Rose looked at him with wet, green eyes and shook her head.
"I was instructed by Jim not to tell you. To be honest, I don't blame him."
Rose stood up and moved to the large mirror and took of her jewellery. Then, she laid down on the bed.
Rick walked to the bed and ticked her in. As he finished, he sat beside her on the bed and gently brushed strands of her hair behind her ear. His touch sent a familiar heat to her.
"Sleep well, Rose." he said as he got up.
"Rick, wait." she said, slightly above a whisper.
"What's wrong, Rose?"
"I just...I want you to stay with me."
"Of course."
Rick sat beside her again and gently massaged her fingers. The relaxation was great for Rose.
Rose held his hand and fondled with his fingers as well, smiling up at him. He smirked.
Then, Rose lowered his head until their lips were mere centimeters apart.
"Rose, what are you..." he was cut short by a deep kiss that was planted on his lips.
Rick was not really surprised as he already sensed her feelings towards him from the beginning. He kissed back, cupping her face. Suddenly, he stood up.
"I...I can't. I'm sorry." he said as he left the room.
Rose sat up, looking at the door and tracing her lips with her fingers.
"What...What is wrong with me? How could I let that happen?" she asked aloud.
Rose groaned loudly and buried her face in her pillow.
As she raised up her head, Him was standing right beside her, folding his arms, looking at her suspiciously. She jerked, startled. He asked slowly,
"How could you let what happen?"
