Chapter Forty Eight

My nerves were shot and I felt like I was sweating through every layer of clothes I was wearing. My hands were shaking and I couldn't stop jiggling my knee, no matter how much Kimmy kept telling me to calm down. I wasn't even dancing yet, I was just doing an interview with Kade, but I was so scared and nervous. He was like a freaking millionaire running this place along with a few others throughout the United States. And his clubs were the epitome of classy. They were for businessmen and high dollar guests. Yes, the average person could get in if they had the money, but he catered to the likes of celebrities and hotel moguls and such. "What if he doesn't like me?" Kimmy snorted and shook her head. Today she was wearing a simple pair of jeans and a cute crop top, but still looked stunning as hell. Her hair was made up in a messy bun that looked flawlessly perfect on her and her makeup was minimal. She had on a clear gloss and nude eyeshadow with some mascara and eyeliner. I wore a cute halter crop top with a pair of jeans and brushed my hair and let it hang down in waves. I did my make up as I usually did with eyeliner, mascara and a clear gloss. The offices we were in made me feel like I needed to put more clothes on. We were in one of the taller buildings in Vegas on the twenty eighth floor where Kade apparently conducted his business. As soon as I had told Kimmy and Hayley that I was going to try it out maybe for the weekends, Kimmy almost blew her top with excitement and made the call instantly to Kade Jennings, the owner and CEO of the gentleman's club they worked at and set up a meeting. She talked me through the types of questions he would ask and then combed through my closet and picked out my outfit. "Will I have to get naked for him?" "Not on the first meeting, no. He's a professional. He will want to send you to an audition and from there, you will start getting naked. That's if you pass the interview." "What does that even mean?" "Just background checks, drug and alcohol tests, sh*t like that." I knew I could pass all of that, but I was still nervous. I knew he would have questions and not only that, what if he didn't like what he saw? Because obviously you wanted women who would make you money, right? And I didn't even know how to begin with an audition. We're there rules? I didn't know how to dance on a pole. And in heels? I felt sick to my stomach, thinking about every possible thing he could ask and then the prospect of being half nude in front of people was starting to feel like an actual fear. Was there a phobia for that? I stared down at my manicured hand and thought of James. As far as he knew, I was just going to stick to the convenience store. Which for the most part, I was. I didn't tell him that I was going to try it out on the weekends and I wasn't going to. It's not like he told me every detail of what he was doing while he was at school, right? And it wasn't like I was cheating on him or doing anything to hurt him. All it was going to be was dancing. Right? I sucked in another breath and startled when his office door opened. Kade Jennings was jaw dropping handsome. He had beautiful onyx hair and startling light blue eyes that looked like they could see right through your soul. He had an angular jaw and high cheekbones. His skin looked like it was a natural tanned color and he was built like a house. I didn't even know how he could fit in a suit so perfectly either. I stood up and looked down at Kimmy as she gave me a thumbs up. I walked into his office and when the door clicked shut, I jumped. "Take a seat, Miss Whitmore." I nodded quickly and sat down in a comfortable chair in front of a regal looking desk. It was gigantic and looked like the type of desk a president or someone equally important would have. I sat and swallowed down some of my nerves as he unbuttoned his coat and sat down. He eyed me carefully and I could see the interest there. I guess it was only fair for him to check me out since I did that already when I was out in the waiting room. "So, I hear that you're looking to get into the business?" "Um...well I'm not one hundred percent sure how into it I am. I know that probably doesn't earn me any points, but I want to be honest." He smiled and I almost stopped blinking at how beautiful this creature was. "That's quite alright. It's understandable. You're eighteen, am I correct?" "Yes, sir." "And you have your birth certificate and your application and everything Kimmy asked you to bring with you?" "Yes." I grabbed my purse and took out the manila folder I put everything in and slid it over t his desk to him. He took it and looked though it quickly then set it down. "Why do you want this job?" He asked as he leaned back in his chair. He crossed an ankle over his knee and steepled his fingers, his penetrating eyes on my face. "For my mom, I guess. Where I work now I'm barely making ends meet and I need to be able to pay for her hospital bills and keep my apartment." "That's noble of you." I scrunched my nose and shook my head. "Not really." "Do you have any experience with dancing?" "Yes. I used to do cheerleading at school and I was also on the dance team for three years." "And you know that there are hazards to this job?" I pressed my lips together and nodded. "Yes, sir. " He nodded again and looked back down at my application. "Kimmy said you want a trial run. What does that look like for you?" I raised my eyebrows and bit my lip. "If you want me to be honest, I have no idea. I have heard some of the stuff that Kimmy and Hayley do, but I'm not entirely sure what to expect." "Well, we have time allotments for solo dances, we have private rooms and working the floor and private parties. Some of our services include going to guest's rooms and putting on a show there." I swallowed hard. "I want to dance. I went to the club the other night to observe and I think I'd be interested in working the floor, and lap dances, but I don't know about the private rooms or anything like that." He nodded slowly. "And this is for trial am I correct?" "Yes. I mean, I-I have only really been naked in front of like two people ever before, so it kind of scares me, but if I don't try, then how will I know if I like it or not?" He smiled then and nodded. "I'll give you an audition. In the audition you will need to prepare a dance and will have to be willing to go topless during your dance to show us that you can do it. It will be in a room with some of the other dancers and a select few of our valued guests." I felt my heart thunder in my chest and I raised my eyebrows. "I get the audition?" "Yes. As long as background checks and everything else come out clean, yes. Also, we follow a strict set of rules in my clubs. No drugs, no s*x with the clients and since you're still underage, no drinking, even if it's offered to you by a guest. I make no exceptions. If any of my girls break my rules, they are fired immediately." I noddwd quickly. "No worries about that at all. I don't drink or do drugs and I have a boyfriend, so that's a non issue." He raised his eyebrows and sighed. "I also can't have jealous boyfriends strolling into my clubs. Is that going to be an issue?" I smiled. "No. He lives is Massachusetts. No issues." He nodded. "Provided you get a spot, we will give you details on scheduling then. Thank you for coming, Miss Whitmore. I hope to see you again." I smiled at him as he took my application out of the folder and handed me the rest. "Go ahead and have your birth certificate copied by my secretary on your way out a long with your ID and social." I nodded and left, still feeling nervous but a little giddy. This was happening. Well...if I passed the audition. All I had to do was ask the girls for some help with that and I wondered idly if I would have to start taking pole dancing classes. It wouldn't hurt. But maybe after I got some money. Later that evening while I was at work, I got a call from James and since I was riding on a high from that morning's meeting I almost spilled the beans. Almost. James was equally excited, but only because he had passed an exam he was worried about and was done studying for that, which gave him some extra free time. I felt guilty as we talked and he began telling me about some weird food he tried with Liam and Sarah and how he had barely made it into one of his classes because he had taken his clothes to wash and someone had taken them out and so he went to class soaking wet. I let him tell me everything because I didn't have anything new to tell him that I actually wanted him to know. I was too afraid of letting anything slip and I knew he told me to do whatever, but I felt like he thought that I would just not go for it. When I got home later that night, I got a text message from Kimmy about meeting her at a gym so we could start working on my dance for the audition which would be in a week. I was both scared and excited for the prospect of making enough to actually survive. And maybe I wanted to do something for myself. I loved dancing, what would it matter if there were strangers watching me and. I had a little less clothes on? Okay, a lot less, but the money would be worth it. Atleast I hope it would be.
