The money multiplied. The $100,000 became $200,00. Then it became $400,000. The money was multiplied so fast that it was a million dollars in a matter of minute. Then they slow down for a bit as me and Chan didn't want to raise any suspicion. Chan also paid off his debt with the money. Chan told Ethan that all of his friends help paid it. It was true because we were friends. Then we also changed to the most expensive place in the city. I invited Sara so she came along with us. It was in one of the tallest buildings in Manhattan. The apartment had three bedrooms, four bathrooms, a living room and a kitchen.
"Alessandro, how can you afford such a place?"
"Ahh, yes. Meet my friend Chan here. He's a very good programmer. He helped me. I'll tell you how later. Just trust me that I am not stealing or robbing or hacking this."
"Ok."
I took the biggest bedroom which has a good view of the city. The apartment had two floors. My bedroom was right next to Sara's. Chan stayed downstairs. I am gonna need some assistants to take care of the legal matters and recruitment matters. I told Chan to post on online that I need personal assistant with $100,000 per/month. Chan looked at me with wide eyes but when I explained that they would take care of legal matters, he understood. The interview would be in 2 weeks.
Since the day that he woke up, he's been running for 5 miles a day. Then he practice shadow-boxing. If he is going to survive the Apocalypse, he needs to train. Sara started to run with me too. We felt like fainting in the first few days but we got better. We weren't at the shape that I was hoping for but at least it increase our stamina. I also taught Sara some fighting techniques. They were complex and Sara couldn't get them he first few days but she became better. She could do these techniques without any problem now. If someone were to attack them, she would be able to defend herself in a fight.
As for Chan, he only agreed to help me because I trusted him. Then as he talked with me, the more invested he became. After all, I am from 20 years in the future so all my ideas from 20 years in the future.
Chan also knows that if he keeps following me, he would experienced something he would never experience by himself.
"Chan, I need you to make something for me."
"What is it?"
"Can you make an artificial intelligence?"
"There are many programs like that out there. AI which would lock the door for you or something."
"How would you feel an AI that can wake you up, make coffee for you and possibly neutralize intruders for you?"
"You mean?"
"Yes."
Chan was smart. He instantly understand what I was saying about.
"You are crazy. I like it. I'm gonna start working on it after dinner."
"You know that this will take months if not, years. You should rest today."
"Of course I know that. I can get a prototype next month."
I knew that I wouldn't be able to stop him since he is in his programmer mode.
"Alessandro, you said you'll tell me, now how did you become so rich?"
"It's no secret, he created a program that predict the binary in stock market. I can earn billions in each transaction but it would be suspicious to do that. So we are making a billion in one week."
"Isn't that illegal?"
"Yeah, but from where I'm from there are no laws. And if I am to save humankind, I need to do everything that is necessary to save it."
"Yeah, I want to thank you again for telling me everything."
I know that's not true. I haven't told her everything yet. I haven't told her that the monsters were lab-made. The company was plotting to almost destroy the world and then saving it again so that they can take credit. I needed to fly under the radar so that they wouldn't focus on me. It would be bad if they hinder me, worse if they kill me before I finish my task.
I rented a office in the Empire State Building. The office was plain with just one desk and two chairs. There was a big window behind the desk and the view was beautiful.
I had no receptionist so I had to give the candidates' numbers. There were hundreds of them and there were more lining up. He had to close the door. If they weren't on time, they shouldn't be hired at all.
There were a lot of women. Some of them were wearing really tight suits. I knew that some of them were providing 'personal needs assistants". I didn't really need those.
"Candidate number 1, you can go through the door."
They were confused when I went through the door too but they composed themselves. I sat behind the desk and gestured her to do the same.
Was this kid really the boss? She didn't know.
"Suzie Miller. Age 26. Top of the class in business class? Nice. Why do you come here?"
"I am here because of the pay."
She was straight forward and truthful and I would have hired her if she wasn't really arrogant.
+1 point for being truthful, -3 for being arrogant, +1 for for being on time. You are now -1 point. I doubt you'll be hired. Anything else?"
Did that little kid really just failed her interview?
"Don't fail me. I believe everyone deserve a second chance."
She was really smart but she was too arrogant. I needed obedient people. People who would follow orders. Not those who would talk back to me.
"Ms. Suzie, you can leave now. Call candidate number 2 on your way out."
