I’m exhausted. I wore myself out trying to outdo Tyler. That asshole somehow used his magic to help him, and he wouldn’t tell me how. He told me to “figure it out.” What a d**k.
I get back to camp and head to the picnic area, ready for dinner, but Mom’s not here. Tyler and I share a look as Atticus and Katya join us. “They didn’t make dinner?”
I shrug, looking around. The cooler Mom uses to bring the ingredients to the campsite is here, but Mom’s not. There’s no fire lit. There’s nothing started.
“I’m so hungry,” Atticus says, a frown on his face.
Everyone else has now joined us, and none of us know what’s going on. One of the guards finally steps out from the tree line, clearing his throat.
