“Thanks for checking on him,” Grandma Audrey whispers in my ear as she hugs me and kisses my cheek.
I want to tell her that it wasn’t what I was doing. I don’t know what I was doing, though. I shouldn’t have followed him out.
I go inside and down the hall to Dad’s office. Dad and Grandma Cora are on the couch and speaking softly, while Mom sits in a chair across from them. She smiles at me, motioning for me to sit in the chair beside her.
“I did something that I didn’t know was possible, Andrew,” she says. “You may know, but you’ve never mentioned it.”
“What is it?”
Her lips form a thin line, as if she’s not sure she wants to tell me. She’s already brought it up, though. If she doesn’t tell me, I’ll never let it go. “I read someone’s mind within the dream.”
