Maximus's POV
Rocking back and forth, he pressed his forehead against hers, his tears dripping onto her face. Why did this happen? What cruel world was this to take such a pure soul in such a horrific way? Deacon and the others were still incapacitated. The bastards that broke into their home had used their magic to snap his brothers' necks, temporarily killing them. They would awake eventually, and then he would have to face Deacon and watch his brother's heart shatter seeing his beloved dead.
"What the hell?" A voice screeched as another screamed in horror, ripping him from his thoughts.
