Alex sat in the university library, surrounded by books and the quiet hum of fluorescent lights. She was studying hard for her exams when a boy named Carlos sat beside her. He was from a rich family and was known for being charming and a playboy.
"May I sit here?" he asked, his smile effortless. Alex was surprised but nodded, saying, "Yes, go ahead." Carlos started studying, but his gaze kept drifting towards her. After a while, he turned to her and asked, "I'm having a party tonight. Would you like to come?"
Alex was taken aback. Why would Carlos invite her? They barely knew each other, aside from him being an officer in their art club. She wasn't sure if she should go. Carlos noticed her hesitation and smiled. "It's just a small gathering with close friends. I like your artwork, and if you want, you can check out my art collection at home for inspiration. I have a private gallery, and it'll be a casual gathering with other art club members."
Alex hesitated, unsure if she was in the mood for a party. Her phone buzzed, breaking the silence. It was Macy, her best friend and fellow art club member. Macy's text read: "Hey, didn't you get my message about Carlos' party? I invited you earlier, but I guess you didn't get it. He's an art club member too, and it's not often he invites people to his gatherings. It'll be fun, and I'll make sure you're okay."
Alex sighed, feeling obligated to accompany Macy. "Okay, fine. I'll go with you," she texted back, trying to sound more enthusiastic. Macy responded with grateful emojis and a message that said "Thanks so much, Alex! I owe you one! You're the best!"
Alex looked up at Carlos, who was waiting for her response. "I'll come because of Macy and our art club connection," she said. Carlos' face lit up, and he fist-bumped the air, exclaiming "Yes!" The nearby students stared, whispering, while the librarian glanced over, saying "Shh."
Unbeknownst to them, Harvey sat at a nearby table, shooting disapproving glances their way. It seemed like he was jealous, but they had no idea. Harvey's gaze lingered, his expression unreadable.
