Chapter 31

1247 Words

Eliana POV The sanctuary was quiet. Too quiet. A silence that pressed against my ears like water. I knew I wasn’t supposed to be here—not alone, not tonight. Alexander had warned me. Practically begged me. “Let it rest, Eliana. Let yourself rest.” But rest didn’t come easy anymore. Not when I still felt Scarlet burning beneath my skin. Faint. Slipping. Dimming like a flame gasping for air. I couldn’t let that be the end. Not after everything. And therefore I waited till the healers fell asleep. I slipped out from the night-shift sleepy guards with nothing more than my cloak, a flask full of water, and the desperation that is climbing my blood stream. By now I was at the sanctuary and the rain had begun. A light rain which caressed my face and made the stones below my feet grey.
