The first howl sliced through the darkness like a knife, low, drawn down, peeling over the trees so that even the very air seemed to tremble. I had this we couldn't take them.. Caleb’s wolves were there.
I grasp the sword all the tighter. I knew the weight, it felt solid in my hand. Outside the air reeked of pine and damp earth, but beneath that was the jolting, high voltage of the pack. They were out there, hovering, waiting for the cue.
“Eliana.”I didn’t raise my voice any louder. She was already there, entering the courtyard, a red light coming from the villa behind her. Scarlet pulsed like a mad aura, beating the rhythm of her inner heartbeat.
“They’re here,” she said. Calm voice, sharp eyes.
