Ford’s POV Everything around me turns into a blur at the Sheriff’s words. “I just got the call when you brought the kid home,” he explains. “It’s the aunt, apparently. Mother’s sister. Lives in Nebraska. She lost contact with them a few years ago and hasn’t reached out since.” “So how did she know that Livia needs a new home?” I ask, my tone coming off a little aggressive, but I can’t tone it down. “Did she just magically know?” “No,” Sheriff Boyd says. “The mother, Eva, contacted her a week or so ago, apparently. She said that she needed help protecting Livia. It seems that Eva already knew that some s**t was gonna go down, and she tried to get her daughter to safety. We all know how that ended, but this could be good news. It means the kid could be out of your hands soon.” Good new
