Ferris Wheels and Firsts

--- Adventure #3 came with squeaky metal, popcorn fingers, and too much sunlight. The county fair had rolled into town like it did every spring, but Jude had never once gone. Loud places, too many people, too much life. He used to say it wasn’t worth it. But now, with Mira tugging his wrist and laughing over her shoulder, he wasn't so sure. They played ring toss (Mira won), ate fried Oreos (Jude almost choked), and screamed on a spinning ride that left them breathless and staggering into each other with giggles they couldn’t suppress. “This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever done,” Jude said as they stood in line for the Ferris wheel. “But you’re smiling,” Mira teased, poking his side. He rolled his eyes, but didn’t deny it. When they finally climbed into their rickety little cart, Mira pulled her legs up crisscrossed and leaned back, eyes on the setting sun. Jude watched her quietly. “Why do you do this?” he asked. “Why me?” Mira turned to him. “Because every time I think I’ve seen all of you, you surprise me again. Because you think you’re fading, but you don’t see how much you’re burning.” He didn’t answer. Not with words. This time, he leaned in. Slowly. Deliberately. And this time, she didn’t wait. Their lips met softly, like a secret passed between them. Not desperate. Not rushed. Just… honest. When they pulled back, Mira smiled. “Well,” she whispered, “guess we can check that off the list.” “Yeah,” Jude said, voice warm. “But I think I want to do it again.” And she did. Twice more before the Ferris wheel touched the ground. ---
