The rest of the week was quiet after the emotional storm of Mary quitting. On Monday, our secretary, Patsy, confided to me that she had accepted an invitation to go out with Tom on Sunday, only to find he was babysitting four and six-year-old nephews and wanted her to help take the kids to the zoo. “He said he was sure he had mentioned that when he called.”
I could only say, “That’s Tom.”
“I ended up enjoying the kids, but what audacity!”
