I took a look at the item we took from the temple of doom, a thick golden rod only about 6 inches tall. I brought out the skull chain I collected back at the vampire village attaching it to the rod, it fitted perfectly.
Dove: All we need now is the main part of the key, we'd probably find it at our next stop, the dragon's mountains.
Bruce: Well then we'd better be going, the sooner we get the full key the sooner we can get off this island.
Dove: It isn't gonna be easy Bruce, according to the map we'll first need to pass through a thin bridge which leads to the rocky mountains were the dragons dwell.
Bruce: Well, you're the leader, lead the way.
Great, it's just him now. I followed the map to the location of the bridge with Bruce tailing behind me, we reached the bridge and it was just what I was expecting; a thin one way bridge made with wood planks and ropes that looked like it could break if someone breathed on it.
Bruce: Is that our only way?
Dove: Yup.
Bruce: Doesn't look safe.
Dove: (sarcastic)Really? I didn't know.
Bruce: Be serious dove.
Dove: I am being serious, you're just being a scaredy cat.
Bruce: I am not!
Dove: Then cross the freaking bridge!
With that the two of us slowly made our way through the bridge, which apparently was easier said than done. With the intense wind blowing the bridge became Shakey, also if you looked down there was a ravine filled with spikey stones, to show how dangerously deadly that was there were various skeleton remains of various animals. Looking down made me nervous and sick and I gripped the Shakey bridge with all my strength.
Bruce: Dove!
I turned to Bruce and noticed he was already at the other side, I snapped back to reality and managed to get to the other side safely.
Bruce: Took you long enough.
Dove: Shut it (pulls out the map and looks at the rocky mountain in front of them) We're here, the dragons probably live at the very top.
Bruce: Then the last part of the key must be there too, I read in a book that dragons love treasures, they always collect shiny priceless things and hate when anything steals from them.
Dove: (sarcastic)Thanks for the random facts. Now let's find a way to get up there first.
Bruce: (looks around) There's a pathway over there, maybe it'll lead all the way up.
Dove: Good idea, let's try it.
For the next 30 minutes, Bruce and I trekked our way up the mountain to the top. At first it was easy at the lower elevation but as we got closer to the top the path became rough and rocky, the wind was harsh and cold the farther we went. I was feeling even worst at this point, my head ached more, my stomach hurt with every step and my vision became blur due to the atmosphere, but even with all that I still went on, Bruce suggested we rest a bit but I didn't want to stop until we got to the top.
Finally, we got there. Hiding behind a giant rock we looked to see if the coast was clear, nah, scattered all around the mountain peak were dragons of various sizes, colours, etc all packed together. Some were sleeping, while others wide awake and prowling around breathing fire or sniffing the air. Somewhere in the rocky wall was an open cave and if you squint a bit you could rays of gold glittering.
Dove: That must be their treasure stock.
Bruce: Fantastic, any ideas on how to get there?
Dove: We can't go head first, that's a death wish. You could distract the dragons while I go search for the last piece.
Bruce: Nah, I ain't no bait.
Dove: (rolls her eyes) Fine, maybe we can distract them with something else.
I looked around, then back at the direction we came, I Then noticed a medium sized pond. Sneaking over there I noticed the pond was linked through a flowing stream which lead to a large ocean below the mountain.
Bruce: Dude what are you doing?
Dove: Dragons are carnivores so they probably feast on meat around.
Bruce: Duh you could tell by the heaps of dead animal carcasses over there.
Dove: Yes, I bet they'd also eat fish.
Bruce seemed to understand where I was going and smirked jumping into the pond looking for fish. I jumped in after him, dang the water was freezing cold, and tried catching some fish. There were lots around us but they were too small.
Dove: We'd need something shark sized to feed the entire colony.
Bruce: Will a blood thirsty killer shark work?
Dove: Where around us will you see such a...
Bruce froze pointing in the direction of the stream, I didn't get it until I looked hard at the foggy water and noticed something large swimming towards us. Thanks to my instincts I reacted and jumped out of the stream, as Bruce tried to get out the shark bit his leg dragging him down. As Bruce struggled to release from the shark's death hold, I took off my bag unzipping and digging through it until I pulled out a knife and without restraint I stabbed the shark deep. It released Bruce and charged at me but I managed to over power it cutting up it's belly with the knife, it fell on the ground with a large thud. I looked at Bruce whose leg was seriously bleeding.
Bruce: Dove.
Dove: Well (looks at the dead shark) it'll do, lemme treat your injury first then we can proceed.
Fast forward to after first aid, the two of us dragged the fish pushing it into the view of the dragons then quickly rushed back to the boulder to hide. Later the dragons noticed and took the shark tearing it up and eating.
Bruce: (whispers) Now what?
Dove: Shhhh.
After a brief period I peeped through and noticed that all the dragons were asleep, every last one of them.
Dove: (whispers) Now's our chance.
We both tiptoed careful not to wake up the sleeping dragons and went into the cave, and just like I said it was filled with various minerals ranging from gold to diamonds, rubies, silver and all kinds of jewelry.
Bruce: Wow, this place is heaven.
Dove: Remember what we're here for, don't take any other.
Bruce: Alright.
We searched the various piles of treasure looking for anything that looked like the head a key.
Dove: Seen anything?
Bruce: Nothing that looks like it could open a chest.
I looked around the place and noticed a small black container on top a pile of gold bricks. I went over picking it up and examining the box and shaking it.
Dove: I wonder what's in here?
Almost immediately, Bruce took the box from my hand smashing it to the ground.
Dove: Dude! Do you wanna wake up the dragons?
Bruce: Not really.
I looked down at the broken box and a golden item shimmered in the light, I picked it up examining it, it looked like the end of a key. My curiosity got the best of me so I pulled out the skull and rod attaching all three pieces together.
Dove: We did it.
Bruce: Yes! Finally we can leave this place.
Sneaking out of the cave we prepared to leave but as we tried being stealthy, Bruce accidentally stepped on a dragon's tail. We froze as the dragon moved a bit but feel back asleep.
Bruce: Dang that was close, could you imagine what would happen if they woke up?
Dove: (annoyed) Yes they would attack us then eat us and it would be our end just like Millie and Jackson!
I was hurting inside and my chest started aching but that didn't stop me from yelling at Bruce because he was acting so odd. He didn't even appear to be sorrowful for our lost friends. As my the pain in my chest increased I started coughing violently.
Bruce: Take it easy dove, you'll wake the dragons.
I couldn't take it easy, I coughed even more and when I eventually stopped the sound of a growl could be heard. Me and Bruce turned around and noticed all the dragons awake. One of them looked at us with deep red eyes then roared at us.
We immediately started running and the dragons gave chase after us.
Bruce: Hope you're happy now dove!
Dove: Will you shut up!
As we ran we reached the edge of the mountain, looking down it was obvious one would die once they jumped off.
Dove: We have to jump!
Bruce: Heck no!!
Dove: Would you rather be eaten by a dragon!!!?
With the dragons right behind us, we had no choice but to jump and the way down wasn't smooth at all, Rocky and steep with lots of sharp rocks.
Once we hit the dragon I unrolled looking around for Bruce. I turned and found him laying on the ground, his body was cut and bleeding from the roll just like me but I covered my mouth in shock after seeing a large rock pierced through his chest, it was obvious this was were he was to end.
Bruce: Dove?
Dove: Don't talk, you're slipping away.
Bruce: No, I have to tell you something.
Dove: What is it...
Bruce weakly dipped his hands in his pocket and pulled out some gold coins and rubies.
Dove: Bruce!!! I told you not to take anything from the dragons' treasure. God dang it dude, they won't leave us alone till they retrieve their treasure.
Bruce pulled out the map and the key from his other pocket and handed them to me.
Bruce: You should go.
Dove: When did you take these from me!!!
Bruce: That's not important, I can't move and I'm about to die anyway, you should just go alone, like you planned.
Bruce closed his eyes and I slowly stood up. I could hear the dragons, they were getting closer. As I limped away more tears flooded down my eyes. Though, I wasn't crying for Bruce because I had said earlier that if he died I'd be unfazed, the reason for my tears are because of the fact that I would continue this journey alone, and even if I succeed and get back home, I would be alone since all my friends are dead. I could hear the dragons, I turned around and saw them hovering over Bruce's body, with that I left the region slowly making my way to the next part of the map.
The more I traveled, the more energy I burned and the more my stomach and chest hurt. As I looked ahead, my vision became blurry and my blood seized, I collapsed on the spot.
