Evan turned to the grave marker and his expression fell. “So this is it, huh?” “This is Melinda’s grave,” Zachary replied. They stood there in silence for a little while. Melinda’s plot wasn’t grassy like the other graves. It was too fresh for that. Hers was raw dirt piled up with dead and dying flowers from the funeral. Strange, but when he was alone, he hadn’t really felt anything. Just numb. With Evan by his side, everything was different. Tears came to his eyes as he looked upon the little girl’s grave. It was all so sad. Too sad. This twelve-year-old would never grow to be a teenager, never go to high school. Never find a job or get married or have kids, if she was destined to do those things. But if destiny really existed, then clearly she was destined to die young. S
