Chapter 14“Are you all right, baby?”
She nodded, without really moving. “I’m fine. Don’t worry. It was good, felt so right. I should’ve known Berne lied. But then, maybe it isn’t always like that, is it? I mean it wouldn’t have been with…oh, somebody like Mitch.” She shifted then, pulling back so she could look at him. In the warm golden glow of sunrise, her face was luminous. “I knew there was a reason to wait. I didn’t know what for, but I knew.”
He looked at her shining face and was humbled. He didn’t know the right words to tell her what a miracle this was, what a miracle she was. He could only draw her back down and press kisses into her hair, the side of her neck, and all over her face. Afterwards, they both slept a little more.
