Ever since Anabel met Erik, she hasn't been giving Donald enough attention. Donald has been busy with work too so he doesn't often complain, although, he's worried about the sudden change. Meanwhile, all of Anabel's attention has been diverted to Erik hence, the reason why she couldn't meet up with Donald.
Her last conversation with Donald made her realize how unfair she had been to him so she decided to go see him first thing the next morning before going to work.
The next morning, just as she planned, Anabel went straight to Donald's house. She didn't even call to ask if he was still home or not. She wanted it to be a surprise and didn't want to ruin it by calling first. She noticed his car was still in the garage as she pulled in which means he was still around.
