Twenty–FourBy the following Monday, when Lord Kirtland picked up Rose to take her to Sir John Soane’s Academy of Architecture, enough time had passed so that she could distance herself from the events of that fateful ride in the park, and look at what had occurred rationally. She still did not blame her sisters for their behavior, but she was no longer quite so upset by Lord Kirtland’s reaction. The still outstanding bills, however, were strongly weighing on her mind. She had received notes once again from both the mantua maker and cloth merchant, reminding her of the money she owed.
