* * * The monastery estates turned out to be really vast. Apart from the common part, accessible to everyone, there were some buildings and a separated part of the garden was reserved only for the monks. Solid, stone buildings looked as if they had been there forever, rooted in the austere mountain landscape. The whole estate was surrounded by a wall, cutting it off from the rest of the world. In the past, before the era of remote communication, stepping beyond these walls must have made a huge impression – Ted thought.
