He went downstairs to the kitchen. He made himself some coffee and reached for the yesterday’s paper. It was another small ritual of his, brought from his family home. During the week he didn’t really have time for that, he would follow the news on the Internet, but he really liked the old-fashioned, rustling paper. Some considered it harmless eccentricity but he didn’t mind one bit. What he read wasn’t particularly optimistic. Boston Celtics were not doing very well this season; reading a detailed analysis of the latest failures experienced by the team he had supported since childhood was a kind of an irrational, masochistic pleasure.
