EMILY “Are you going to tell me where we’re going,” I asked, leaning closer to Nicholas, “or do I have to scream ‘stranger danger’ and roll out of this car?” He chuckled, his gaze fixed on the road like he was afraid if he looked at me, he’d veer off course. “If I wanted to kidnap you, would I have told you to dress up?” I shrugged, playing with the hem of my sleeve. “Who knows?
