The second page of the book shows an African man in a gilded armor with elegant cape drapes over his broad shoulders offering a handkerchief to a beautiful Venetian woman. The man is introduced as Othello, a Moor General of Venice and the woman is introduced as his wife Desdemona, a daughter of a wealthy and respected senator of Venice. The next page shows two men talking in the middle of the night. Base on the caption below the drawing, the first man is disheartened after finding out that Desdemona eloped with Othello and married him in secrecy while the other man whose name is Iago, reveals that he’s resenting Othello for choosing a young inexperience soldier to be his lieutenant instead of him and promises the other man that he’ll help him get Desdemona.
