Chapter 3: General

He felt a cool gentle touch on his closed eyelids. The wind blew away the fallen leaves as he caressed the blades of grass with his fingertips. The thick leafage of the tree above shaded him from the sun. He didn’t mind it as he rested his back against the tree’s trunk. “Thank you,” he whispered, stroking the bulging roots and gripping them carefully. “Why are you sitting here by yourself?” He lifted his head and smelled an overpowering rosy smell that crushed the smell of the wet soil and grass. He opened his eyes to gaze into her absolute redness. She pushed her red hair behind her ears and she sat in front of him, her gaze softening. “My name is Jewel. What’s your name?” “No need to talk to me as if I’m mentally four.” He stood up. “No need to talk to me at all.” “Aw, don’t be like that! What’s your name?” “I don’t have a name.” “Why... is that?” “Because I outlived it. I don’t remember it anymore.” “Then, can I give you a name?” “You can, and I can discard it.” “You’re as unfriendly as the rumours say.” “You’re as silly as those rumours.” She grabbed him by the collar. He looked into her eyes with a frown, observing the details of her face. He opened his mouth to speak but felt her lips on his. His body froze as he clung to her arms. “What are you... doing?!” He raised his eyebrows as she slid her hand underneath his shirt and teased his chest. “But you will always remain human. Your age doesn’t matter.” He pushed her away from him. “Go away... before I do something I might regret.” “Hm?! And what is that thing exactly?” She narrowed her eyes, pushing him against the tree. She took his chin. “There’s no shame or regret in what we’re about to do, master.” She took his hand and rested it against her breasts. “Don’t ask me to go away. I can’t do that.”  He tried to get away but moaned as she pushed her fangs into his neck gently. “I want you so badly, so you can’t reject me.” He gasped, his knees giving in. She hugged him protectively. “Don’t worry, master. I know it. I know I’m the one for you, and so are you.” His vision grew hazy. He fell to his knees, panting. “What did you... do...?” He gritted his teeth. “Did you just come here for this... barbaric display of b********y? You should be ashamed of yourself. You’re nothing but a licentious lecherous nymphomaniac!” “I had no idea that my master was such a pure, chaste gentleman.” She bowed her head. “I apologize greatly. I will go reflect on what I did today.” He rested a hand against his face, blushing. “Do... that. Good. As long as you understand.” “But I won’t go alone.” He gasped as she jumped on top of him and tore his shirt. She grinned. “We will do that together!” she exclaimed, lowering her dress. He shut his eyelids. “You perverted exhibitionist! I will exile you! I will make you pay for th–” He blushed as she kissed him, forcing her way into his mouth. He moaned, his head tilting backwards in an attempt to escape her. She took his head in her hands, running her fingers through his dark green hair strands. She found his tongue and chased it. He scratched her back, speaking muffled words that she could understand. Her gaze softened as she sucked on his lips before leaving them swollen. “I love you, master. I love you so much.” He gazed at her, hyperventilating with watery eyes. She took his hand and bit his wrist. He shook his head. “Don’t... do it...” His eyes started closing. “If you do... that... I...” “I know! I will give you a name.” She rested his back against a nearby tree as he sobbed and gasped for breath. She sat in his lap after biting her own wrist. “Your hair is so unruly yet so alluring. It’s such a beautiful green. How about I call you Ivy?” “I... vy?” He opened his mouth slightly and moaned as she kissed him again without giving him much of a break before entering his mouth. She slid her hand along his bare chest and belly as her second hand stroked his butt carefully. She narrowed her eyes. “Now, we can finally be one. Isn’t that exciting?!” He gasped as she nibbled on his neck before pushing her fangs into his skin. “Even our blood will be a witness.” He watched her bright red hair with half-closed eyes. “Already... one?” He shut his eyelids, drifting into a deep sleep. She hugged him and removed the hair from his face.  She kissed his forehead. “I will treat you right, master.” “Treat... me...” “Right...” He opened his tired eyes and gazed at the dark ceiling. He sat up on the bed, counting the thousandth vivid dream he had in one month. He sighed and pressed his hands against his face. A second later, his alarm beeped. He shut it off. He entered the bathroom and gazed at himself in the mirror. He watched his puffy dark eyelids and the lifeless look in his eyes. If I die, will there be someone...? He took a deep, shuddering breath and slapped the freezing water against his face. He took a cold shower and sat on the bed, drying his long white hair. Everything was perfectly dark and still, exactly how he liked it. He opened the drawer beside his bed and held a dark blue sphere in his hand. He noticed a crack in it before his phone rang. He picked up, wearing his pants. “What?” “General Ivy, the mission to the border was pushed forward. We will meet in front of the jet in ten minutes. Do you think you can make it?” Ivy closed his eyes for a moment. “Yes.” “Please be there. If... you commit one more felony...” “I know. Don’t concern yourself with me. Mind your own business.” “Yes, General!” He opened his window and gazed at the moon before his lips parted with a wide smile. “What a beautiful night.” He took his sword and jumped off the window. “A beautiful day to die.” He stepped on the ground without upsetting a grain of dust and took a step forward, towards a jet that was parked in a yard in front of the ten-floored apartment complex. The engines roared before the mission started. “Perhaps twenty thousand years ago, it is said that a strange object appeared in the sky.” He pushed his white hair back as he gazed down upon a mountain surrounded by fog and mud. A brown-haired woman stood beside him.  “It appeared in what used to be called the Earth, a part of our current planet. This object had the shape of a sphere. Like a moon but not quite like it, it was round but flawless. The moon neared the land slowly and covered the sky one night, big, massive, gigantic, stretching as far as the eye can see. The night reigned for nine months and nine days. People prayed for it to end. They wept in the darkness as their light wouldn’t help. They begged for the sun to appear and worshipped Gods that were once forsaken. Some went mad. Some took their own lives. Some took the lives of others amidst the chaos. Countries fell, and nothing remained. Only darkness and madness. Just like birth took nine months, so did death, the jealous, despicable–oh so despicable twin.” The woman looked at the man, searching for a reaction in his icy gaze. She smiled sadly, seeing nothing. “Nobody knew what brought the moon. Was the love of those who sought it so much? Was it the hatred of those who cursed the darkness of the night? Was it... accidental? No answer could be found.” She moved her gaze to the moon that loomed over them, static. “Do you have an answer, General Ivy?” “Prepare for the descent. The target must be annihilated, for the glory of the North.” The white-haired man walked past her. “Move it.” She saw him squeezing a blue sphere in his hand and nodded. “Yes, General.” The plane landed on top of the mountain on a pre-prepared platform.  “I will go ahead. Wait for my word.” Ivy jumped off the plane and climbed the mountain downwards until he found a hole leading inside. He frowned, noticing several eggs on the sides of the tunnel. He stood in front of an egg and touched it carefully. He blinked as it began pulling him inside. “What is... this?” “Please...” He winced, hearing a voice ringing in his head. “Save us!” He glanced around, panting. “Who...?!” Gazing in front of him, he saw a woman with golden hair and brown eyes. He tried to touch her, but his hand went through her. “Who are you?” The woman’s hand reached out for him, but she disappeared as the darkness swept her away. Ivy found himself back at the tunnel. He pushed his hand into the egg. “It’s hollow.” He glanced around. “All of the other eggs... They’re hollow...” He closed his eyes. “I see.” He released the blue sphere he had in his hand and left it inside of the egg before moving deeper into the tunnel. He heard whispers, soft and gentle. Peeking from the exit, he clenched his fists, seeing the ground painted in blood with only two people remaining inside. The man had vibrant red hair, but his face was hidden behind a vividly decorated mask. The woman had golden hair. She had a mask that carried different patterns. “I’m not beautiful...” she whispered. “You are.” He smiled, touching her cracked, brittle skin. “Only I can see it, though. You’re that special. Your beauty only blooms once, and I... Only I can see it. Everyone else is blind.” “Everyone?” “Everyone!” He grinned and held out his hands. “So don’t worry... Believe me. Believe in me. No matter what happens, I will never leave your side.” Her hands reached out for him, her gaze softening. “I believe in you. I believe you, Amaryl.” He pulled her in a tight hug and kissed her forehead. “Soon... Soon, I... I too... I will regain my full strength, and I can meet your expectations fully, my queen.” “Yes... Soon.” She brushed his long, red hair locks. “I can’t wait.” “Target found.”  Ivy saw a gun appear beside his face suddenly, its hot metal brushing against his skin.  “Locking.”  The woman aimed at the blonde-haired’s back.  “Three... Two... One...” Amaryl’s eyes widened slowly, hearing that which he feared most. Before he could move a muscle, the sound of thunder echoed in the cave. He felt blood on his hands. By the time he looked down, there was nothing left. That which he considered his queen disappeared behind a pile of organs that could hardly be recognized. He heard slow footsteps getting closer.  “You’re not the target. Who are you?” Amaryl tilted his head backwards to meet a frigid blue looking down on him. “General! We were so worried when you didn’t contact us earlier. We improvised. I hope this didn’t offend you! As the captain of this operation, I will take my punishment in full later!” A brown-haired female stood beside him, holding his arm. He lowered his head to meet her eyes. He then looked back at the red-haired and took a step closer. Amaryl’s eyes watered as he lowered his head. He gazed at the blood on his hands, crying heavily. He gasped as Ivy grabbed his chin and looked into the mask to see frightened crimson eyes.  The man’s eyes watered. “A-At least... the childr–” The blue-eyed turned his back to him. “Mission accomplished. Let’s go.” “What about him, general?” “Leave him.” “Huh?!” “He’s already dead.” “General.” A soldier stopped Ivy before he left the cave. “The magistrates are calling for you. About last week’s incident... General Ivy, please don’t resist.” Ivy lowered his gaze to the soldier’s waist and saw his hand rested on his gun. “Sure. Let’s go.” He turned to the female. “Go back to the base. Don’t expect me.” Her gaze saddened. “Yes, General.” He blinked, watching the whiteness extending before his eyes. His mind went blank gradually as his eyelids dropped. “Life isn’t quite as it seems.” “Life is no more.” “We are no more.” “We are all dead.” “For that very reason, we must also kill.” “Let’s spread our death before their life becomes contagious.” “We have arrived, General Ivy.” Ivy then cracked his neck. He left the car and clenched his jaw as a thousand guns were pointed at him. “Surrender quietly, General!”
