Chapter 2, date night

Lucy It’s a cute house for a bachelor pad. A nice two-story house with a wrap-around porch. Luckily, I dress nice for my job and I was wearing a long-sleeve burgundy knee-length dress, a black pea coat, and knee-high, black, flat boots. “Make yourself at home.” Lyall shows me the ground floor, and it more looks like a bachelor pad but it’s cozy for only one person living here. “Thanks, you’ve got a delightful house.” “Thanks, the idea is that I won’t need to get a bigger one once I find my ma-wife.” That was weird… like he purposely didn’t want to tell me something. “Are you hiding something from me?” I give him my confused look, and he gets nervous. “What?! Oh, that… it’s something I will tell you about, but not on a first date. I don’t want to scare you.” Well, at least he’s considerate of my feelings so that’s always nice. “So, since we’re not going to a restaurant what are we having for dinner?” “I’m glad you asked. I had Lyna show me her hot chocolate recipe that was her mom’s, and she also showed me her dad’s steak recipe with a side of some roasted root vegetables.” “Ooh sounds yummy. I didn’t know you could cook.” I’m genuinely surprised, my mom usually did the cooking in our house. Sometimes dad does, but mom usually has to fix his mistakes. “I’m a man full of surprises. Why don’t you pull up a chair to the counter and we can enjoy each other’s company while I make dinner?” He smiles at me while he prepares the steaks. “I can help if you’d like.” I try to get up from my seat but Lyall sits me back down gently. “No, no. Not while you’re my guest. You relax and enjoy the hot chocolate.” He hands over the warm mug of hot chocolate to me and I gladly take it. It was freezing outside! As dinner is being prepared, I smell the spices being put on the steaks and they smell so delicious! “Dinner smells good!” I’m almost drooling over it even the vegetables smell good being roasted in the oven. “And people are always surprised when I cook.” I giggle at his remark and finish my hot chocolate. Once the food is ready, I help him set the table, and he lights a candle in the middle of the table to make it romantic. “Here we go, I hope you enjoy it.” He blushes as he puts the plates of delicious-looking food on the table. “I’m sure it will be delicious.” I blush back at him and as I take my first bite, I almost moan it’s so delicious! “Lyall! This is delicious and cooked just the way I like it!” “Thank you, I’m glad you like it.” We have a good time having our dinner together. As we were finishing up, I put plates away while he checks his phone for a message. Confused why he’s checking his phone on our date but I don’t press. He goes to the door to get something, but he’s hiding it from me so I’m not sure what it is. I put away the leftover food and dishes in the dishwasher, I join him in his living room to relax on his couch. “These are for you…” I see him blush as he gives me a bouquet of white carnations and red roses. “Aww, how sweet? Is that why you were checking your phone?” I make him blush again and he made the face of ‘darn it I’m caught. “I was hoping you wouldn’t see that… trying to make it a surprise.” “Well, they’re beautiful thank you.” I kiss his cheek for the lovely flowers. I put them down on the coffee table not to ruin them. As I kiss his cheek, it’s like I feel this spark between us. I’m not sure what it is, but it surprised me. “Did you feel a spark or something?” I can tell he’s at a loss for words and trying to come up with something, and I know he’s hiding something from me I’m just not sure what it is yet. “Um yes I did, but on a first date isn’t the time to explain all that. I will tell you, but I want us to get to know each other first but we go into the deep stuff.” “Alright, I trust you. If it means that much to you; you don’t have to tell me yet.” I smile at him and kiss his cheek again, but he turns his head and I kiss his lips. It was the sweetest and gentlest kiss that anyone has given me. We kiss for a solid minute before he pulls back. “Thank you for trusting me. I know it’s getting late and you’re more than welcome to stay in the guest room. I can have Lyna bring some extra clothes over for you if you want.” I didn’t realize it was getting late. I look down at my phone and realize it was close to ten o’clock, and to get back to the shop to get my car, then the drive home it’d be close to eleven… I think about it for a couple of minutes. It’d be my first time staying at a guy’s house, and I don’t want to worry my parents, but it is late and I don’t want him to make the long drive back into town… “Let me call my parents and fill them in on the situation and I’ll let you know.” I may be in my early 20s but I still live with my parents. Their house, their rules, and I don’t mess with our good relationship, and living somewhere rent-free is a plus. I go to call them in the kitchen and at first, it’s pleasantries on how it’s going, but I tell them because of the late hour I’d be staying in a guest room with a friend and surprisingly they say it’s ok. Did not expect that, but I tell them I’d call them in the morning to let them know when I was going back to my shop. “Well, what’s the verdict?” He looks like he’s on pins and needles waiting for my answer. “I told them that since of the late hour I’d stay with a friend. Technically not wrong, but they said it was ok.” “Great, let me talk to Lyna and her friends to bring over some things you’d need.” He goes off to do that and I take my boots off to get more relaxed. A few minutes later he comes back with a bag full of goodies that I’d need for the night. “Lyna and her friends were really excited for you, and got you some nice things.” I look in the bag and see a warm and velvety midnight blue lacey, spaghetti strap top and pants PJs and matching robe and some toiletries to get me through the night. “Thanks for letting me stay. I’d feel bad for making you drive so late. I’ll go change into something more comfortable.” I smile and blush a little as I take the bag of goodies from him and make my way to the bathroom to change. When I get back, I see him in a similar PJ set with a midnight blue long-sleeve shirt and pants with some fleece around the collar. “You look comfortable.” As I join him to relax on the couch with a blanket. “So, do you… you also look cute.” I see him try to hide a smile and blush, but I sit on his lap and snuggle up with a blanket for a bit. “Well, hi there…” Don’t think he was expecting me to do that… to be honest I didn’t expect it either. I’m usually not this bold on a date, but something about him and this date are different. I can feel safe and comfortable with him. I put my head on his chest and put a blanket around us as we watch a show together. As it wraps up, I unknowingly fell asleep, and he takes me to the guest room bed while his room is across the hall from me. I’m thrilled with this date and wish it didn’t have to end.
