Third Person POV Scarlett sat frozen on the edge of the couch, her hands digging into the fabric like she could anchor herself to the earth through it. Her mouth was dry. Her heart thudded so violently she thought she might faint. Miriam still hadn’t said a word. Scarlett’s voice came out small, cracked at the edges. “Miriam… please…” The older woman’s eyes softened, but her throat bobbed like she was swallowing back words she wasn’t sure how to say.
