Jasper’s POV I saw her before she ever knew I existed. Four years ago, on a chilly Wednesday afternoon, Charles stormed into my office, a rare warmth in his usually sharp tone. He had just returned from a family visit and wouldn’t stop talking about a girl named Scarlett. “You’ll like her,” he said, like it was a fact. “She’s sunshine in human form. Got the kind of heart you don’t see around here anymore.” I dismissed it. I didn’t have time for hearts, or sunshine. My life was dictated by courtrooms and contracts. I didn’t believe in things like ‘love at first sight’ or serendipity. Not then. But Charles kept talking. “She’s my youngest daughter. Cupcake baker. Dreamer. A little too kind for this world. Look out for her if anything happens to me.” He said it like a joke, brushing off
