The air snapped between us like a pulled wire. Her face went pale.
“I mean, what Mr. Carrington said, if another letter comes, it should be brought to your attention… immediately,” she rushed out.
I stepped closer, watching her squirm.
“Funny. Jasper never told you about the letters.” My voice was low now. “I made sure of it.”
She looked like she wanted to sink through the floor.
“I…I must have overheard…”
“No,” I said calmly, taking another step toward her. “You didn’t overhear anything.”
