Chapter 106

1108 Words

Miriam’s POV The sea had been rough all week. Gray skies. Choppy waves. The wind screaming like it knew secrets it wasn’t supposed to keep. Scarlett said it made her feel alive. I said it made the house feel haunted. She laughed at that. But she didn’t see what I saw. Not anymore. Not since Elias came into the picture. I didn’t blame her. She’d been through hell. But what unsettled me wasn’t Scarlett. It was him. Elias. He was too charming. Too perfect. The kind of man who wore his sadness like a well-cut suit and said all the right things too easily. People like him had a way of making grief look romantic. Dangerous. Scarlett was falling. And I couldn’t afford for her to fall into the arms of the wrong man. Especially not when I saw what I saw. It happened two nights ago.
