The Hidden Chamber

200 Words
Chapter 8: The Hidden Chamber Driven by the journal's cryptic clues, Eleanor discovered a loose stone in the library wall. Behind it lay a narrow passage, the air is thick with the smell of dust and decay. Hesitantly, the group followed her into the darkness, their only light coming from Eleanor's flickering phone screen. The passage descended into the depths of the house, the whispers growing fainter, replaced by a low, and rhythmic thrumming that seemed to vibrate through the very stone. The passage opened into a hidden chamber, circular and cold. In the center stood a stone altar, stained with what looked like dried blood. Carvings adorned the walls, depicting grotesque figures and symbols that seemed to writhe in the dim light. A sense of profound dread washed over them. This was the heart of the house, the source of its power. On the altar lay another journal, bound in blackened leather. Its pages were filled with the chilling history of the ancient temple and the entity it served, a being that thrived on sorrow and secrets, it is power growing with each soul consumed by the house. The pact was not just about memory; it was a sacrifice.
