Chapter 9: Confessions

773 Words
Jiro and Max had been married for a few months now, and they were settling into their life together. Jiro had decided to take a break from his family's business and pursue his own dreams, while Max was continuing his work as a successful graphic designer. One evening, as they were cuddled up on the couch watching a movie, Jiro turned to Max and said, "Max, there's something I need to tell you. It's been weighing on me for a while now." Max looked at him with concern. "What is it, Jiro? You can tell me anything." Jiro took a deep breath. "Before I met you, I was in a relationship with someone else. His name was Tatsuo, and we were together for a few years. We had a lot of history together, and it was hard for me to let go of him when we broke up." Max listened attentively, his heart sinking as he heard the words. He had known that Jiro had a past, but he had never expected to hear about another serious relationship. Jiro continued, "But when I met you, everything changed. You showed me what it was like to be truly loved, and I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. Tatsuo is a part of my past, and I don't have any feelings for him anymore. But I wanted to be honest with you and tell you everything." Max took a moment to process the information. He knew that Jiro had been with other people before him, but he had never expected to hear about someone else that Jiro had loved. After a few moments of silence, Max spoke up. "Jiro, I appreciate your honesty. I know that it must have been hard for you to tell me this. But I want you to know that I love you, and I trust you. Your past doesn't change how I feel about you." Jiro breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a weight lifted off his shoulders. He had been holding onto this secret for so long, and he was grateful to have finally been able to tell Max. As they cuddled up together, Max whispered in Jiro's ear, "I love you, Jiro. And I always will." Jiro smiled, feeling more in love with Max than ever before. He knew that he had made the right decision in telling him the truth, and he was grateful to have such a loving and understanding partner by his side. Over the next few weeks, Jiro and Max's relationship only grew stronger. They continued to support each other in their respective careers, and spent as much time as they could together. But as the days went on, Max began to notice that Jiro was acting distant. He would spend hours on his phone, and would often disappear for hours at a time without explanation. One evening, Max confronted Jiro about his behavior. "Jiro, is everything okay? You've been acting strange lately." Jiro hesitated, unsure of how to respond. "I'm fine, Max. I've just been busy with work." But Max knew that there was something more going on. "Jiro, please tell me what's going on. We can't keep secrets from each other." Jiro sighed, knowing that he couldn't keep it a secret any longer. "I've been talking to Tatsuo again. We started talking a few weeks ago, and I didn't know how to tell you." Max felt his heart sink as he heard the words. He had trusted Jiro when he had told him about his past with Tatsuo, but he never expected that they would still be in contact. "Why didn't you tell me, Jiro? You know how I feel about this," Max said, feeling hurt and betrayed. "I didn't want to hurt you, Max. I still care about Tatsuo, but I love you. I didn't know how to deal with these conflicting feelings," Jiro said, tears welling up in his eyes. Max took a deep breath, trying to process everything. "Jiro, I understand that you have history with Tatsuo. But I can't be in a relationship where you're talking to your ex behind my back. It's not fair to me, or to our relationship." Jiro nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "I'm sorry, Max. I didn't mean to hurt you. I'll stop talking to Tatsuo." Max looked at Jiro, feeling a mix of emotions. He loved Jiro deeply, but he didn't know if he could trust him anymore. It was going to take time for them to work through this, and Max wasn't sure if their relationship would ever be the same again.
