Chapter 4: Mixed Signals

592 Words
Max felt a jolt of excitement and nervousness at Jiro's words. He had been hoping that Jiro felt the same way he did, but he wasn't sure if he was ready to take the leap. "I...I feel the same way," Max finally said, his voice barely above a whisper. Jiro smiled, and Max felt a surge of relief. "I'm glad to hear that," Jiro said, his hand reaching out to brush against Max's. Max felt a jolt of electricity at the touch, and he couldn't help but lean in closer to Jiro. They kissed, their lips meeting in a gentle, tentative embrace. As they pulled back, Max felt a sense of euphoria wash over him. He couldn't believe that he was finally with Jiro, the person he had been pining over for weeks. Over the next few days, Max and Jiro spent every moment they could together. They studied together, ate lunch together, and explored the city together. Max felt like he was living in a dream, unable to believe that his life had taken such a wonderful turn. But as the days turned into weeks, Max began to notice something odd about Jiro's behavior. He would sometimes pull away from Max's touch, or avoid physical intimacy altogether. Max couldn't understand why Jiro was acting this way, and he felt confused and hurt. One day, Max confronted Jiro about his behavior. "Is there something wrong?" Max asked. "Are you not into me anymore?" Jiro looked surprised at the question, but his expression quickly turned to one of sadness. "No, Max, it's not that. I'm still into you. It's just...complicated." Max felt frustrated at the vague answer. "What do you mean by complicated?" Jiro took a deep breath before speaking. "I have a past...with another guy." Max felt a pang of jealousy at the words, and he couldn't help but feel like he was being compared to someone else. "What does that have to do with us?" Max asked. Jiro looked down at his hands, his expression pained. "I don't want to hurt you, Max. I care about you a lot. But I need time to figure things out." Max felt a sense of sadness wash over him. He didn't want to lose Jiro, but he also didn't want to be kept in the dark about his feelings. Over the next few days, Max and Jiro continued to see each other, but there was an underlying tension between them. Max couldn't help but feel like Jiro was holding back, and he felt unsure about where their relationship was heading. One day, Max decided to take matters into his own hands. He showed up at Jiro's dorm room with a bouquet of flowers and a determined expression on his face. "I don't want to wait anymore," Max said. "I want to know how you feel about me, Jiro. Are we in this together, or not?" Jiro looked surprised at the sudden declaration, but his expression softened. "I'm sorry I've been giving you mixed signals, Max. The truth is, I'm still figuring things out. But one thing I do know is that I care about you a lot. I don't want to lose you." Max felt a sense of relief wash over him. He didn't have all the answers, but he knew that he was willing to take a chance on Jiro. As they embraced, Max felt a sense of peace settle over him. He didn't know what the future held, but he knew that he was happy to be with Jiro in that moment.
