Episode 2: The Child That Would Not Stop Crying That same night, Amara was rushed to the hospital. The doctors examined her carefully, but they could find no clear explanation for the sudden pain she had experienced. "Your baby is alive," the doctor assured her. "But you must avoid stress. Your blood pressure is dangerously high." Amara burst into tears. "Doctor, please save my child. I don't care what happens to me." The doctor looked at her sympathetically. "We will do everything we can." Outside the examination room, Mama Nneka sat on a wooden bench, trembling. She could not forget the words she had spoken. She had been angry, but she had never imagined that her own mouth could leave her feeling so terrified. When Amara was discharged, Mama Nneka begged her to forgive her. "My daughter, I was angry. I didn't mean those words." Amara looked at her mother with red, swollen eyes. "Then why did you say them, Mama? Why would you curse an innocent child?" Mama Nneka had no answer. Three months later, Amara gave birth to a baby boy. They named him Obinna, meaning the father's heart. But something about his arrival disturbed everyone. The moment the baby was born, he did not cry. The nurses rubbed his back and called the doctor. After a tense moment, Obinna finally let out a loud cry. Everyone in the delivery room breathed a sigh of relief. Except Mama Nneka. When she held the baby, she began to shake. The child opened his eyes and stared directly at her. For a moment, she imagined she heard a tiny voice whisper: "You cursed me." She screamed and dropped the blanket she was holding. "Take this child away from me!" Amara, exhausted from childbirth, looked at her mother in confusion. "Mama, what is wrong with you?" Mama Nneka ran out of the room. That night, Obinna cried continuously. No matter how Amara fed him or rocked him, he refused to settle. At exactly midnight, the hospital lights flickered. Then Obinna suddenly stopped crying. He turned his head toward the door. A nurse standing nearby followed his gaze. There was nobody there. But the door slowly creaked open by itself. And a voice came from the darkness. "The curse has only just begun." The nurse screamed. Amara clutched her baby to her chest. And somewhere outside the hospital, Mama Nneka collapsed in the rain. Because she had just seen a woman standing beside her car. A woman who looked exactly like her own mother, who had been dead for twenty years. The dead woman pointed toward the hospital and said: "You have repeated the same mistake I made." Mama Nneka's lips trembled. "Mother?" The apparition stepped closer. "That child will pay for a curse that began long before he was conceived." Then she disappeared. Mama Nneka fell to the ground, crying. "What curse? What are you talking about?" But the rain swallowed her words. TO BE CONTINUED…
