Chapter 19For hours, the only sound was the rhythmic shifting of the hard dirt. The rusty metal shovels and pickaxes, found within the old miner’s cabin, clanked hallow and dull. Violet dug until her hands were callused, and her fingers were numb from cold. When they were satisfied with the hole, Violet took stock of the sky. The moon was nearly gone. It was just a few hours until daybreak now. Perhaps she should have been tired. But her body carried the brunt of her fatigue.
