Chapter 12The Railwalkers reconvened with Tiger and his Apaches a few miles up the Rio Grande. Their involvement with the rescue, Violet later discovered, was pure luck. After Rory had managed to escape Richard’s men, he’d wandered aimlessly for hours. “I thought I was gonna die for sure,” he said. “It was so hot, and I was so hungry. Buzzards followed me for a few miles, I think.”
“How’d you find Tiger?” Violet asked.
Rory shook his head. “I dunno. I think he mighta found me. I was so tired that I sat down to rest my eyes a little, and when I opened ‘em back up, there was three Apaches lookin’ down on me.
