Job Offer

{Winter’s POV} I have been stuck in this stuffy hospital room for days now. I’ve had a few of my students come visit me with their parents, which has been sweet. One thing I didn’t expect was Veronica showing up. “So..” she sneered as she walked in. “I heard you saved the Lemoi children. Nice move, I wish I had thought of it!” “What do you want Veronica, I’m trying to rest, and honestly I don’t want to see your wretched face in my already awful room!” I snapped at her. “How did you even get a job as a teacher with an attitude like that? Does Mr. Lemoi know about your horrible personality?” She giggled. I sighed heavily. “Veronica, how many times must I repeat myself before it gets through the Botox in your forehead and into your brain? I don’t care what anyone thinks of me, that is including Mr. Lemoi! I only care about being a good teacher, that’s it! I don’t care if you hate me, or even if he does. I just want to live a peaceful life, and be a teacher!” I snapped quite loudly back at her. “Now get out of my room!” “You wretched little..” she yelled, as she stalked towards me. “You touch her, and you’ll lose that hand!” I heard his voice from the doorway. It was deep, stern, and honest. He was prepared to take her hand if she hit me, and it made me feel important, special even. She froze, and turned around to face him. “James, it’s so wonderful to see you!” She put on a grin and clasped her hands together. “That’s Mr. Lemoi to you, don’t ever think you and I are chummy enough for you to call me by my name!” He snapped at her, he looked angry, his eyes nearly aflame. “Get out of her room, before I have you removed! Never, ever, show your face to me again!” He shouted. She shivered and jumped at his voice. “Mr. Lemoi, surely you don’t mean that. You can’t honestly be saying that I don’t tempt you.. I mean.. look at me!” She said pleadingly, tracing her fingers over her figure. I couldn’t help it, I broke out laughing loudly. Mr. Lemoi looked shocked, his eyes trailing over to me. “Look at me!” I cackled making fun of her. “You b****!” She yelled, turning to face me, and making a run for my bed. James ran up behind her grabbing her by the wrist and slinging her around to face him. “I gave you a warning!” He snapped. “Now leave!” She dramatically threw herself in the floor, looking up at him. “Y-You hit me!” She shrieked holding her hand up to her face. “No, I didn’t, and if you don’t stop I’ll have you arrested for harassment!” He yelled back. She stood up and stomped out of the room. Mr. Lemoi then turned to look at me, his eyes growing softer. He then smiled, and broke out in a laugh. “Did you really mock her!” He laughed. “Sorry Mr. Lemoi.. I just couldn’t help myself! Her behavior has always been laughable, but that way just too much!” I laughed out holding my stomach softly. “Owe.. it hurts to laugh!” I giggled. “Sorry for barging in like this unannounced.” He said. “No, I’m glad you did, you helped me get rid of Veronica. That woman has been a thorn in my side for years, but she just keeps coming back!” I said softly. “Thank you, for getting her to leave..” “No problem, I’m glad I could help.” He said kindly. I smiled softly at him. “Is there anything I can help with? Are the kids doing okay?” I asked him. He nodded. “They’re doing fine, I was actually hoping I could talk to you about something..” he said. “Sure.” I answered, sitting up carefully and groaning as the pain in my back shot through me as I moved. I finally got adjusted and settled back in. “What can I do for you Mr. Lemoi?” I asked. “Well, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but I’ve pulled the children out of school, because the other parents complained. They’ve decided the best thing to do would be to fire you..” he said looking down. “Fire.. fire me..” I repeated back the words, a cold feeling aching it’s way into my heart. “But why?” I choked out. “The other parents complained that you may have caused the accident, that way you could reap the benefits. They also said that you didn’t think about any of the other students in the class when you performed your heroics.” He said softly. “I’m sorry, I fought for you, but with the majority of the parents saying they no longer felt their children were safe there, there was nothing I could do.” I nodded.. “But..” he said, I looked up to him. “I would like to offer you a job as my children’s private teacher. I know it’s not the job you wanted, but I’ll pay better than you made there, and no other parents will be around to try to start drama with you.” He said kindly. “A private teacher?” I asked. “What all would that entail?” I asked. “Well, preferably you would move into the house, there is a whole guest house that is for you. I’d also like it if you could do flexible learning hours with the children so they can do the activities they’ve requested.” He said. “Of course if you’d prefer to live where you are now, we can work around that.” “I’ll do it..” I said softly. “I’ll be the kids teacher, and I’ll move in. Flexible hours work for me, as long as I can also have free time for myself.” He nodded and held out his hand. “I’ll have a contract drawn up immediately. Try to get some more rest, I’ll be back tomorrow with the papers and to check in.
