The bank smelled musty. The single room was badly lit. The back wall was covered with shelves supporting hundreds of huge leather-bound ledgers. Wire counter cubicles resembling rusty birdcages provided the sole security against armed robberies. Dan couldn’t imagine there being too many of those. A sign above the entrance politely requested customers to leave their firearms outside with the guard. There was no guard.
