We walked into the dining room, and the food was already sitting on the table. I saw the omegas leaving the dining room. I turned towards Dereck, “Are the omegas allowed to eat with us?”
He just looked at me like he was confused for a second, “Well, we don’t really call them omegas here, they are an important part of our pack because without them, we wouldn’t survive for long, I mean, don’t get me wrong. The warriors, teachers, trainers, and doctors are all important, but I think that the ones who clean our house, cook our food, and help take care of the mother after birth deserve a little bit more credit than to be called an omega. Honestly, most of the people that work here are volunteers; we don’t force them to work here, but they get paid a generous amount for doing their job so well.”
I wasn’t expecting him to answer the question like that. I had tears in my eyes by the time he was done talking. He immediately embraced me in a hug, allowing the bond to help calm me, “Hey, you don’t ever have to worry about seeing anyone abused here. We are not like that here. My father used to abuse my mother all the time. I hate people like that, and they usually die if one of us sees it.”
Smiling at him, he led me to the table, and at the head of the table were two chairs, one with a crescent moon and the other with a full moon. I didn’t want to say anything yet, but he pulled the chair out with the crescent moon on it, allowing me to sit down before he pushed it in, taking the seat next to me with the full moon on it. I started looking at the chairs again. Sharaya must have noticed because she was staring at me, arching her eyebrows up, “Nina, are you ok? You keep looking at the chairs funny?”
“Well, these chairs have the same moons on them that are on my wolf. How long have you had these chairs?”
Dereck looked a little shocked, “Um, I am not honestly sure I know my grandfather had them, but I don’t know where he got them from or if they were passed down to him.”
I just nodded my head before turning back around and seeing the food that was piled in front of me. My mouth started watering the moment that I saw the food. I grabbed my fork and started eating the eggs and sausage on my plate, and it was the most amazing thing ever. The eggs were light and fluffy, the sausage was perfectly made with the perfect amount of seasoning on it. I looked up for a moment to see Sharaya staring at me like I grew a second head, “How in the hell are you eating more? I am still full from earlier.”
Smiling, “ Well, I haven’t eaten a lot, so I have to have many smaller meals until my stomach can adjust to larger amounts of food again. That’s why I am only eating what they put on my plate, which, if you look, they didn’t put a whole bunch on it.”
She looked down at my plate, then started blushing a little bit, “I am sorry, Nina, I didn’t mean to offend you.”
Giving her a smile, “You didn’t offend me, I was just reminding you, that's all.”
I finished eating my sausage because I wouldn’t be able to finish both the eggs and the sausage, and I know that I need more protein. I sat back in the chair, rubbing my stomach in circles. I noticed Dereck and Jordon watching me, and I looked away. It was a little embarrassing not being able to eat a bunch.
Hearing someone clear their throat, and when I looked around, I noticed that the sound came from Jordon. “Don’t feel bad, queen. You have to ease into eating full meals. Nobody is going to judge you for that, so don’t be scared ok eat as much as you can as often as you can, and I am sure that your appetite will return to normal.”
I was about to speak when the door to the dining room opened and in walked this really tall blonde who had perfect hair and the most piercing green eyes ever. I looked at Sharaya with a confused look on my face, but when I looked back at her, I could see that her eyes were wide.
Looking back at the girl and watching her walk over to my chair, “You’re in my seat now, move b***h he is my man.”
I looked at Dereck and could see that he was getting angry. I looked her up and down again before settling on her neck. She didn’t have a mate mark and she didn’t have a ring. “You must be mistaken, because he is my mate and, from what I can tell, you don’t have his mark or his ring, so you can go sit down at that end of the table so we can enjoy our meal in peace.”
Jordon spit the water he had in his mouth all over the table before he fell out of his chair laughing. I was confused on why it was so funny to him I just simply told the truth, I looked back and the girl was still standing there but this time she had her hands on her hips.
“Dereck tell this b***h that she is not your mate, you are making me the luna.”
I turned to Dereck. He went to say something, but I held up my hand before scooting my chair back and standing up. I was nose to nose with this b***h, I let Rudina come forward a little, but not enough to change our eye color. “Look here, you dumb w***e, I will say this one time and only one time, Dereck is my mate, do you understand? You will not be his luna. You are nothing to him, and if you can’t listen, then I will make you listen. Do you understand me?”
She raised her hand to smack me, and I could hear Dereck's chair being flipped from him trying to come forward. I could feel him walking towards me, but Sharaya yelled at him to stop. I caught her hand in mind swing. Her eyes went wide before I twisted her wrist and broke it. She started screaming, so I kicked her knee out and then hit her with an upper cut. I didn’t put enough strength behind it to knock her out, but her jaw is going to be wired shut for a few weeks.
Squatting down so that we were eye level, “That’s the only warning that you will get the next time you claim to be his luna or look at him with any look other than respect, I will kill you right where you stand. If you think I can’t do it I dare you to try it.”
Standing up, walking back over to my chair, and sitting down. Jordon was just staring at me like he was in shock. I looked at Dereck, “Now have you slept with this she-wolf?”
He looked offended that I would even ask, “No, I haven’t I have been waiting on my mate.”
I smiled at him, I heard the door open again when I turned I seen another man coming into the room he looked down at the girl on the floor. “You truly are a stupid b***h aren’t you? I told you to stay away from the Alpha and Beta because you weren’t their mate. They have told you this numerous times, and now look at you. You’re going to be in the hospital for at least a week just to heal from the injuries. Since you don’t want to listen, you are grounded. I am taking everything that I pay for away, including your credit card.”
He turned back towards the door, ushering someone to come in. I saw this teenage boy coming into the room. “Pick your stupid ass sister up and take her to the doctor; she needs to be healed.”
The boy did what his father asked him, but his father turned towards Dereck and I. He bowed in front of us. “I apologize for my daughter's behavior towards you and our luna. I will punish her adequately. If this happens again, I will ask that you banish her from the pack so that I can have her grandmother come pick her up.”
Dereck stood up, walking around my chair, “Gavin, you don’t need to bow, my gamma, and what your daughter does, I will not hold it against you. However, I am not going to be the one in charge of anything that has to do with her; my mate here will handle that. As she offended my mate, it is well within her right to decide any punishments that she may deem necessary to Tina.”
He nodded his head before turning back towards me, “Luna, I apologize on my daughter's behalf. Whatever punishment you deem fit, I will carry it out.”
Placing my hand on his shoulder, “I will not punish her as she is currently suffering enough right now, but she is required to have mandatory counseling until I deem it no longer necessary.” Gavin nodded his head before walking back out the dining room door, by the time we sat back down at the table Sharaya and Jordon were already done with there meal.
“Well, I guess we don’t have to worry about you defending yourself, holy s**t, that was amazing, Nina.”
Looking at the beta smiling from ear to ear, “My parents trained from the age of five I just haven’t been able to take care of myself or keep up with my training since Victor took my back away. Once I have regained the rest of my strength, I really want to start training again I am really rusty.”
He just shook his head, “If that is you being rusty, I would hate to see what you could do in tip top shape.”
I just smiled again before turning back towards my mate, “Now what was it you guys wanted to show us I believe we are all finished with our meals now.”
He looked at everyone’s plates on the table before nodding his head and getting up. He was being quite so I hope that I didn’t make him angry by dealing with that girl, we walked in silence following Dereck through the hallways in complete silence. After a few minutes, we arrived at a very large door that Dimitri had to insert a key into to open. He allowed us to walk inside the room first, following behind us, and when Sharaya and I saw the contents of the room, our mouths fell wide open. It was one large library, and we started walking around the room, staring at the bookshelves, each as tall as the room itself. In the middle of the room was a large table covered with stacks of books and papers. I looked over the table, and there was a large bulletin board with pictures of my parents on it, with a whole bunch of lines going everywhere.
“Dereck where are we at?”
Stepping forward grabbing my hand and pulled me to the table, “This is my family’s personal library where every record from our pack over the generations is located. But you can also find just about anything in the collection my family has been gathering for centuries. This is where we started researching trying to figure out how your parents were killed and how they were able to overpower your parents.”
Looking down at the floor, not really wanting to discuss my parents’ death with anybody, but it seems that they need answers as well as I do.
Pulling a chair out, taking a seat, and taking a deep breath, "Victor was way stronger than he should have been for just being an alpha. I believe he had the help of a dark witch to gain the power to defeat my parents so easily. But I don’t understand how he got into the kingdom in the first place. We have a magical ward around the whole kingdom that my ancestors had put up by a powerful white witch. It alerts us to intruders but is also supposed to keep people out that have been tampering with the dark magic.”
Jordon and Dereck looked at each other before they ran over to the table, searching through their stacks of paperwork. They pulled out a small notebook, handing it to me. I opened it and saw a picture of an older female with purplish hair.
I looked up at the boys, “Who is this?”
“We believe that she is working with Alpha Victor but I am not sure what she does, Have you seen her before?”
I took another look at the photo trying to recall if I had ever seen this woman before, but I can’t remember a time when I ever met not at Alpha Victors nor while I was in the kingdom.
Turning back towards Dereck, “I don’t remember ever meeting her, not at Victor's nor at the kingdom, so I can’t be of much help. I am sorry.”
He placed his hand on my shoulder, “No, it's ok, we were only hoping that maybe you had seen her before, so we can have a little bit more information, is all, no need to apologize.”
I went to speak but Jordon stepped forward, “Alpha someone as trespassed on the north side of the pack.”
Jumping up immediately, “That’s the way that I traveled here. It might be one of Victor's men looking for me.”
I heard a growl come from Dereck, “He will not get you, I will kill him first!”
They were about to leave the room when Dereck turned around. “Nina, if you don’t mind waiting for us here, I don’t want them knowing that you are here at least till we get more information.”
I went to speak, but Jordon turned towards Sharaya, “If you could wait here too, we don’t need anybody from his pack seeing you, especially since they think you're dead.”
Sharaya nodded her head, they started walking away but Dereck turned back around, “You guys can go through everything that we have done already and see if you see something that we don’t.”
Nodding my head, I know that I should be helping, but right now I am still recuperating, and I don’t want to risk being taken back to Victor's pack. Especially since I found my second-chance mate so quickly, I want to get to know him better and spend the rest of my life with him, as the goddess willed. Sharaya and I started going through everything they had already been through, taking things out and placing them in a separate pile if we found anything they had missed. There was so much information they had already sifted through, but the pile Sharaya and I had started to get larger and larger with information we pulled or wrote down. I wonder if everything is ok they are taking a long time, I looked at Sharaya and I could see that she was worried to but we just kept working I think it was more of a way to distract us at this point because if she was feeling anything like I was she was scared and nervous. I just hope that everyone was ok, I didn’t want anymore people getting hurt because of me.
