Rosalie's POV
"Rosalie , what was that you did back there?" He asked pushing my office door wide so he could get in.
"Marco."
"What's with you? Why would you disrespect me like that in front of everyone?." He asked, I knew he was fuming.
He had already become used to the Rosalie that once cowered at his voice, he hasn't gotten used to the new memo.
"I don't appreciate you coming to my office like this and secondly, it's Senator Rosalie, do we have to go over this again?" I asked walking to sit down.
"Cut me that bull shit." He hissed hitting his fist on my table. "What the f**k is wrong with you? I'm already embarrassed enough for not getting a seat as a senator and you're here to add to it." He added ruffling his hair aggressively.
I yawned and stared at him "how is that my business Marco? What has that got to do with you barging into my office?"
"Oh, it has everything to do with Rosalie, everything. I can't believe you fooled me, there I was thinking my beautiful wife was trying to convince her father to get me a seat in the Senate but what did you do? You went there to get one for yourself. I honestly don't feel guilty for anything that happened between us, I don't and I'll do it over and over again if I get a chance to."
I was livid and the first thing I would have done was to throw the figurine on my table at him, but I won't let him see his words had any effect on me.
I yawned again.
"As you can see, I have a lot to do here and I would really appreciate if you finish up with whatever you have to say and leave."
"Rosalie, please don't be like this, you used to love me, what happened? I'm still your Marco, nothing changed." He whispered shifting closer to my table.
"Rosalie, you're now the Senate President, just lift my position a little, something to make people respect me, I'm tired of running errands for people that are not better than me, please then we can call this a truce." He continued.
Even till the end, he was still a leech and he'll always be one, looking at him now, I questioned what I saw in him that might have convinced me to accept to do forever with him.
"Aren't you married? What would be your wife's reaction if she finds out you're here pleading with your ex-wife for assistance?" I asked.
"Don't bring her into this, it is between us. Even if she knows, there's absolutely nothing she can do about this. After all, she's the reason I'm in this mess, the stupid girl did a bad job at convincing her father."
He was the worst kind of men, the type that lacked accountability and would do anything to get what they want, even throwing you under the bus.
"I Will help you."
He stood up from the couch he had occupied without permission.
"You will?" He asked walking close to my seat, his eyes glittering with hope.
"Yes."
"I'll do anything, anything to pay you back. Thank you Senator Rosalie, thank you." He said smiling.
I was irritated.
"I'll ask for a favor in due time, for now, let's focus on getting you your deserved position."
"See why I married you?"
"You married me because I was naive and didn't love myself enough, you married me because you're a user who saw an easy prey." I was going to scream at him, but I said it to myself instead.
"You're smart, you know what I like, and you understand my dreams, it's a shame that we ended the way we did but I'm ready to take things one step at a time, we can rebuild all we lost these past four years."
"Fine but I'm a little busy right now we can catch up another time."
He stood up again "Thank you, you're a busy woman now, I'll follow your schedule." He said as he made for the door.
"Let's go out later today, we can catch up there."
He stopped.
~•~
"Make yourself comfortable."
He nodded and sat on the vacant seat in front of him.
"I thought you were joking when you said you wanted us to go out, I thought about rejecting the invite but I'm glad I didn't."
"It's nothing, I just wanted to catch up on the happenings since I left."
I had booked a place for us after I left work and called him over, I had almost left when I thought he wouldn't show up but seeing his frame coming through the restaurant door, I realized that I knew him better than I thought I did.
"Well, I've been the same old me."
Definitely.
"Since you left, I've been feeling like a horrible man, I couldn't get my mind off you, even while laying down next to my wife. I thought about you every night and every day, I felt bad for what I did but you know I had no other option." He said holding my hands.
Accountability? Zero.
"I understand, we have to do everything to survive in this cruel world."
"You see, it's just as simple as that, I promise if you do this one for me, I'll make sure we build our family again, I'll leave everything and come to you."
"Even fighting the president and his family?" I asked, amused at his words.
"That slimy old man? I'll do anything to bring him down, you know the fool ruined my chances of being a senator, I don't care if I have to go against him."
I sipped my tea in silence.
"How have you been Rosalie? You still haven't told me how you got to this position? I promise not to tell anyone." He said shifting closer to me.
I smiled.
"Well, let's just say it was God's timing, there was a vacant position and I was the only qualified person, my father didn't have to do much, it was easy."
He nodded and drank his coffee.
"Well, did you even talk to your father about my bid?"
"I did, he accepted and called his friend right in my presence, I was coming home to tell you with your congratulatory gift when I saw what I saw."
He remained silent, twirling his cup of coffee, I knew I had him where I wanted him to be, the first step was to wage war between him and his thoughts, his conscience.
"You should have said something."
"I didn't get a chance to."
I looked at this man again, irritated was nothing compared to how I felt, he was not the type anyone should bank their life on but that wasn't my cross to carry anymore.
I looked over his shoulders, to the man clicking away on his cameras, my eyes went to Marco.
I might have a little gift for his wife.
