KIERAN’S POV The rhythmic scratching of my pen on the paper was the only thing that hung on the room’s silence when the door burst open. My Gamma Ferdinand, rushed in, his breaths gasping in quick not to escape from his lungs. My grip on the pen tightened in what looked like fear at the unexpected intrusion. Ferdinand had never been one to act without a cause. “What is the problem?” I asked, my voice cool but firm. He pressed a hand against my wooden office desk trying to catch his already escaped breath. “Rogues. We found them at the borders of the pack.” A cold sensation swirled thrugh my chest. The last time we had rogue invasion sent Alpha Silver to his current state if paralysis. We couldn't afford another attack, not when our enemies were watching for a flick moment of weakness. “Prepare the warriors for a patrol,” I ordered, rising from my sit. Ferdinand nodded, and within minutes, we were already shifting to oir wolves. I led the patrol team into the thick woods that served ss the pack outskirts, my senses sharp, my instincts on high alert. The Moonligh Forest stretched his primality ahead, its canopy thick producing a silhouette of itself. Filtering moonlight rays piercing through the gaps. The air still, but with a foreign presence that lingered—something that didn't belong. And then, it hit me. A scent. Delicate, soft, pungent. A mix of pine, lavender and wild roses, so gentle yet consuming that my wolf almost lost its footing. My breath hitched for a flick moment, and my muscles temsed as my body familiarized with it before my mind could fathom. Mate. The realization crashed into me like a tidal wave, my wolf howling in my head, urging me to find her. But this—this couldn’t be happening. I had always believed I would choose my own mate, not be at the mercy of fate. I foist myself to move forward, to remain riveted on the mission. But the intoxicating scent wrapped me like a spell, relentless and intense. It looked impossible to ignore. “Hold guard,” I instructed the warriors behind me, my voice strained as I turned towards the scent only me could sense. With intentional and hesitant steps, I moved through the trees, my pulse hammering in my ears. And then, I saw her. A lone wolf that looked weak lying on the ground, her golden brown fur covered in blood. Three large rogues circled her, their eyes gleaming with desperation and cruelty. One lunged, claws protruded, ready to rip into her flesh. A snarl tore from my throat. My wolf surged forward, rage searing through me like fire. I lunged at the rogue on the air that was about to pounce on the lone wolf, my claws sinking into his neck as I slammed him against the thick bark of an oak tree. His pained growl echoed through the forest before he slumped to the ground, motionless. The others hesitated for only a second before retreating into the shadows, but not before sending a warning. “This isn't the end. We’ll be back.” The moment they disappeared, my gaze darted back to her. She was trembling, her breaths running in and out of her lungs, her body too weak to hold its wolf form. Her eyes—deep brown and filled with unshed pain—locked onto mine. I cringed for a while before crouching beside her, my fingers roaming the torn flesh at her ankle. “You’re in safe hands now,” I murmured, more to myself than to her. She flinched at my touch, her entire body tensing as though expecting another attack. I softened my grip. “The saliva of a Beta will help heal your injuries faster. Just stay calm.” Her gaze darkened. “Who are you?” Her voice was raspy, tired, yet held an edge of defiance. “My name is Kieran, but further intro doesn't really matter right now,” I said, brushing my thumb against the wound as I let my wolf’s healing properties take effect. “What matters is getting you healed.” EVANS’ POV I gave up on this philosophy of salvation a long time ago. Kian had assured me that. The memories of his rejection, the disdainful look from the pack, the death of my parents, the betrayal of my best friend came reeling through my mind—all of it was a weight I carried every passing second. Betrayal had been my only companion, and trust was a luxury I could never earn. So why was my heart racing in such manner? I could feel his warmth touch of his hand swirling thorough my skin, the electric sensation of his touch spreading like wildfire. I didn't like it. I hated the way my body was responding to his touch, my wolf not in its agony as though she had found a missing puzzle. No. I couldn't allow this happen again. I refused to be at the hands of a mercy of another person, more especially a man. Another mate who could so easily see me as thrash. I bit my lip, forcing myself to focus on the pain instead of the tingling warmth flooding my senses. I could already feel my wounds closing, the sharp sting fading into dull aches. His scent was intoxicating—smoky, earthy, together with the fresh scent of pine. It wrapped my senses, pulling me under, making it more difficult to think straight. Who was this person? And why am I responding to him like this? “Hey!? Are you with me?” His deep, hoarse voice pierced through my lost thoughts. I swallowed hard. “Yeah, just… just thinking.” He glared at me for a flick moment, his piercing silver eyes unreadable. “You need some rest.” I nodded in tiredness, though rest was the last option on my mind especially in the hamds of a stranger. As he helped me up, a wave of dizziness hit me like a blow, and before I could halt it, my stomach lurched. I hesitantly made it to the nearby oak tree in front of me before I doubled over, throwing up whatever was left in my stomach. A feverish chill rippling through my spine as I shivered uncontrollably. I could feel his towering presence behind me, steady, and unwavering. “I’m an Omega,” I blurted, my voice barely above a whisper. “Your kind doesn’t mingle with people like me so please leave me alone.” A long silence followed. And then, my vision blurred. ********* The soft rustling of the birds muffling through my ears as I tried to get my vision on the penetrating light to my eyes. Sunlight passed through the tall curtains of an eerie room, casting warm golden streaks across the tiled floor. The air in the room was furred with the scent of rose, pine and something that seemed familiar–something undeniably him. Then I felt it. A sharp pain between my thighs. My breath caught for a moment as my fingers trembled over the sheets that covered my body. The realization came to me all at once. I was naked. A rush of panic and disappointment surged through my nerves as I turned—and there he was. Lying beside me Kieran. My stomach churned. “Kieran,” I whispered, then louder, “Wake up.” He stirred, his silver eyes opening lazily as he met my gaze without a snippet of guilt. “What did you do to me?” My voice cracked. He sat up, stretching, utterly unbothered. “What the Moon Goddess intended.” Anger surged through me, hot and suffocating. “You r***d me.” He tilted his head, his gaze unreadable. “I gave us the bond we were meant to have.” A sob choked in my throat. My wolf was rejoicing, basking in the connection we had formed, but I—I—felt broken. Violated. I wanted to shriek. To cry. But all I could do was stare at him, my hands trembling at my sides as I c lenched at the bedsheet. “You’re not different from the rest,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “You take what you want from your toys and send them away like rags.” He smiled then—a cold, calculated smile. “You might be right anyways.” And just like that, the last piece of me I had tried to hold shattered.
