CHAPTER EIGHTEEN The car ride back to the hotel took eleven minutes. I counted every single one of them. Daniel sat beside me. Silent. Eyes forward. The controlled stillness of a man holding something in with both hands and not letting any of it show on his face. I looked out the window. Rome sliding past. Beautiful. Ancient. Completely indifferent to the fact that I had just sat across a table from the man who had my father killed and come out the other side not knowing what to believe about the man sitting beside me.
