chapter 1 THE FIRST LECTURE

229 Words
The lecture hall was alive with chatter. Finance students — loud, confident, mostly men. Predictable. Until she walked in. He noticed her instantly. Not because she tried to be noticed… but because she was. Light blazer, fitted just right. Hair falling in soft waves, catching the sunlight. Perfume — faint, distracting. She didn’t scan the room for friends. She moved like she knew exactly where she belonged. Seat by the window. Notebook open. Pen ready. Her gaze landed on him. Direct. Unapologetic. Unaware. “Good morning, class,” he said. Voice steady, heart not so much. He lectured. Graphs, formulas, market behavior. His words flowed, but his focus wandered. Every now and then, his eyes found her again. She leaned forward when interested. Brow furrowed when thinking. Her attention felt… personal. He asked a question. Her hand stayed down. He called on her anyway. Surprise in her eyes. No hesitation in her voice. Answer — flawless. “Correct,” he said. “Very good, Miss Amarah.” That faint smile… and then back to her notes. The lecture ended. Students rushed out. He erased the board slowly. Gave her time to leave first. She didn’t. Books in hand. Hair slipping forward. Fingers tucking it back with unconscious grace. Something tightened in his chest. This was dangerous. And yet… she had already taken more of his attention than she should.
