CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE Charlotte watched through the side mirror as the detectives turned into the narrow driveway of Glenys Lane’s old property. She was both sorry for them for having to visit the horrible place and at the same time wishing she could listen in. She’d gone there once when Glenys still lived there. The broken-down tiny cottage was bad enough, but around the back was a blackened firepit hidden behind the yard. She remembered all too well the acrid smell of smoke.
