(Let's get a divorce) The words got stuck in Jessica's head the whole night.
Jessica couldn't centralize her mind - her body and mind were losing balance. She ran her hands over her hair, she paced up and down in exasperation, and kept this up till the sun rose. Peter slept in the couch, so she was all alone in the room.
Jessica's mind was fazed. Those words Peter uttered hit her hard, hard enough to keep her in bed for hours - thinking and visualizing.
(Peter can't be serious. No no he can't be; he's f*****g with me - I know it)
(What if he is damn earnest - s**t I dunno. He sounded serious, and put up a humorless face saying it)
Jessica's thoughts were crowded with memories of her and Peter, it was playing in her head.
(Those moments when we were in College, him being among the cool kids in campus, and I was just some boring cute girl in Clark College. I couldn't put my finger on why he chose me - no one did actually. There were a thousand more girls, way cool than I could ever be, and sexier too, but he iced them the instant we started dating, and it felt awesome to finally get noticed, not just about that. I felt loved in his arms, safe too. He was caring, adorable young Peter, took me on various dates where we had fun and made memorable moments. We had fun together, so much that these memories keep flooding my head. Every guy at first was startled seeing us together - cool Peter with some lame girl who nobody knew. It felt good being popular tho - I mean, guys started seeing how good I actually looked, and they did their best to steal me from him. I can still remember those obstacles we scaled through, those crazy fights we had. I recall vividly how many times we got separated and came back together. It was sick seeing you slip away from my hands, but somehow, the Universe always had a way to bring us back. f**k, this is too much) Jessica stopped thinking.
She stood to her feet, had a shower, brushed her teeth, and put some nice clothes on. Fine, she was distressed, but wouldn't let it get in the way of her life and family. Jessica strolled downstairs, only to see Peter and the boys weren't home. Of course the boys had gone to School, but Peter should be home coz he doesn't work today, but he isn't, and Jessica freaked out about it.
She took a deep breath thrice, relaxed her nerves, and picked up her smartphone to call someone.
"Mom...." she said, sobbing.
"Sweetheart, what's with the tears. Oh I know, issues with Peter again?"
"Yes mom"
"Get rid of those tears on your cheek sweetheart. You know it always works out, don't you" her mom said, with certainty in her voice.
"I don't think so mom. He wants a divorce" Jessica sobbed louder
"What the actual f**k. I have to call him, and talk him out of this s**t talk"
"No mom. We have to figure this out ourselves"
"I won't let my sweetheart be the first in our family to get separated from her husband. You know the rules love"
"If you see it that way mom, then maybe I'd be the first. We shouldn't let this rules thingy - whatever you call it; we shouldn't let it control our lives. If a man wants to go, then let him leave" Jessica replied, wiping away her tears.
"Suit yourself. Do it your way then" Her mom hung up
